Thunderbird Club

Gibson's new EBO bass. Personally I'd really like it if it wasn't another "gene" commemorative and the price was within reason!

 The truss rod cover with Gene on it is expensive and no doubt adds to the tone. Wonder what if you cost if you just wanted one with Fred on it?:smug:

Aren't you tired of that extra six grand just hanging out in your bank account?

I actually like the bass, but would never buy a Gene anything.

They've been out of production for over a year now.

But man, what a GREAT sounding bass, they nailed it on the Jr!

As much as some of us love Gibson ............ trying to understand there mode of operation is 100% futile.

They go out of their way to make that, but won’t do a faithful reproduction of A TBird IV or an old NR. :rollno:

Had a great rehearsal last night, our original guitarist has rejoined the band and everything just jelled really well, instead of dreading our very big Halloween show, we are now all super excited to hit it. I cautioned our singer about bumping into me and used the '64 with the Trace Elliott - All I can say is, Damn! Its just so good!
The only downside will be giving our (now former) guitar player the news that they're no longer in the band........

great news - :bassist:

Essentially coming to art via comic books, I was a fan of the regionalists for a period. I’ve had the opportunity to see works by the big three, Benton, Wood, and Curry. In the end I probably prefer the gentle, and sometimes not so gentle, humor of Grant Wood.

Why does it have binding? Did Gene have binding put on his 1959 EBO? That's a lot of cake for a Les Paul tribute!
I've never had a bass with a mudbucker in that position. I'm going to have to try that.

If that’s a modern “mudbucker”, it’d be interesting to hear how it sounds in the position they have placed it.

but in no way am I interested in any SS for $6.5k, not to mention I’ve personally never liked the idea of owning a “signature” model anything. It’s always seemed sort of cheesy to me.

Yeah, I have sent around 7 messages to customer service asking if there are any “chrome” rings I can get to go with the two re-issue Thunderbird pickups I just purchased directly from them. I noted that it looks like they come on the NR ‘birds around the bridge pickup.

nothing but crickets…
