I play fingers for a couple bars if I drop my pick.

Tried out an Epiphone 4-String 60’s new Thunderbird bass yesterday. A lot to like - but two things that took it off of my potential bass-upgrade candidate list. I really liked the playability, sound and component quality. The two things I didn’t like were:

Relatively less important; No bevel where picking arm drapes over body.

More important; Neck Dive, Stood with neck maybe 30/40 degrees above horizontal, hands off and neck went to 30-40 degrees below horizontal. Not sure whether my strap & flannel shirt were too slick and allowed this to happen. I felt bad about the neck dive, and a little about the lack of the body bevel - because otherwise I liked the bass as much or more than the others that I played.

I put Hipshot Ultralights on mine. It makes a substantial difference. Of course then you have extra screw holes on the back of the peghead - that doesn't bother me.

That's what I have now. Most I've had in a little box is 18k or so, about 30k in a big box. Sometimes like 3k in the big 53

The new dedicated run I started recently tends to run 24k-28k, normally in a big box, but it goes across the mountain, through donner's pass, into NV - be nice to have a 13 for it!

I think the least I've had with the current job was like 300-400 lbs. In the back trailer of a pair of shorts. The front was pretty maxed out at a bit over 18k. Shoulda just put it all in one 53

We don't have that very much-at least in FL. I've seen pix of them "out west". There a few car haulers set up like that.

Yeah, pups is what most people out here seem to call them too....to me it's less confusing (in CA anyways, where trailer sizes are somewhat limited/standard) to just go with short (28') and long (53').
I guess people must think it's a weird TN thing, but they seem to generally understand what I'm talking about


Other western states though, they use a wider variety of sizes & combinations. I get to see a lot of those when I make my daily trip into NV.

Here in CA, they call it "truck & trailer", and with out the trailer they call the truck a "bobtail". Which confused me often for a while, since I'd only ever heard that used to refer to a semi-tractor with no trailer.

Not the only thing about the way people in CA talk that has been confusing


Truck & trailer, the kind I had when hauling fuel:

Front tank, most of the time, is one big compartment, usually holds 3900-4100 gallons, but rarely loaded more than 3500-3800, due to weight.
Rear tank/trailer is usually three compartments, 2k/1k/2k gallons, normally loaded to max if gasoline or ethanol, less for diesel & other heavier fuels.

May be in my future in the next couple years also...

Stop all this nonsense and move to the (generally) free Commonwealth of Kentucky. We're working on reducing income tax here now that our legislature is basically enforcing a balanced budget and checking spending. (The short version.) Kind of like real people and businesses have to do. Shall I leave the light on?
