The Gibson blurb states that the pickups are a result of a collaboration between Rex and Jim DeCola but they are not - they are the pickups from the EB Bass range that came out in the first half of the 2010s which is easy to tell as they still have the labels on them. They aren't dreadful pickups, but they're not a result of any collaboration with Rex Brown - and his RexBird has EMGs in it anyway.
Bigger problem is that they are not fixed into the pickup covers and are just floating about under them: the explanation from Gibson was that they can't pot them into the RB pickup casings as those are plastic and heat distorts and deforms them.
Also, it's purely down to luck whether you get a set that have been dipped in any wax or not - even if not fixed into covers wax potting would reduce the microphony - my one was completely unwaxed/unpotted to the point where I couldn't play above practise volume without so much finger/pick noise (from touching the covers) the bass was ungiggable.

I get that-for a primarily guitarist. I 'sling' my bass fairly low(which makes it awkward to play sitting-I don't),but my guitar "abilities" are "I gots A and E and I'm workin' on D."It makes playing the guitar easier having it on top! At least does for me, having owned both setups
I wonder how that differs from TB+ in that respect.

I'm not sure the TB+ pups are in covers - they may be cast into epoxy molds, I've not checked yet
Thanks C! Most don't care. On occasion someone on Sunday will ask what kind of bass that is, or they like a particular one--generally because of the color. Once in a while someone musically inclined will come ask me something or make a comment. I don't think I ever get comments on anything super amazing like the '64 Tbird, old Ps or Js. But people are generally amazed that most of my instruments are older than they are. Two, maybe three older than I am. One guy who is/was a drummer just tells me, you have a lot of nice basses. But just play the '64 Thunderbird! He loves how it sounds. Can't argue with that.oh my….love that color combo, one of the most beautiful imho…what do they tell you at practice showing up with such beautiful instruments?…
I personally want to be known for my playing ability and great tone and don't want what I wear to distract from the afore mentioned priorities, and not be eye candy to be objectified.

They're epoxied into the plastic covers. How do the Rex ones differ?

They're not epoxied into the plastic covers - they're not affixed to the covers in any way whatsoever. They're just sitting on the foam lumps in the pickup routings, floating about under the plastic covers.

Right, but isn't what they do with the TB+ what they're saying they can't do with the Rex ones? Or are the plastic covers different materials?
