Thunderbird Club

Why did you have to do that? The PCM or computer thingy does that now. What kind of crazy car was that?

You banged on it to free a float didn't you? And he's thinking, "Who thinks that does anything? This nut actually thinks hitting it will fix something."

I mentioned before how I said at a car dealer that I liked pickups in part because I can change plugs, and basic maintenance is generally easier. The young lady doing the paperwork looked shocked and said with astonishment, "You know how to change spark plugs?" It was hard not to laugh since it's hardly difficult. But she obviously doesn't know anyone who could. Or she thought I looked exceptionally stupid, but let's just assume the former.

good. Grief.

sounds like a conductivity issue….open coil or broken interconnect to same….

two wire,

looks like I got nothing to lose dissembling and possibly learing to rewind a pickup.

I could get lucky and find a replacement but it looks like maxon pickups are around $100 each and I can’t find the exact one.

if the pole screws are fake and part of the cover it would be easier to find a replacement.

I have a little more leeway on treble geetar’s than I do with base geetars.

It turns out the only 7ender geetar’s I like are telecaster’s. But I like them a whole lot. There is one that’s not pictured…

My favorite treble geetars are…

1) Rickenbacker 650D
2) Gibson Flying V
3) Epiphone Crestwood/Wilshire/Coronet
4) Gibson SG
5) 7ender Telecaster

I don’t think I have 5 favorite base geetars, let’s see… if I separate them into types maybe..

1) Gibson NR Thunderbird
2) Rickenbacker 4004
3) Rickenbacker 4003
4) Gibson/Epiphone Reverse Thunderbird
5) 7enderBirds all lumped together including my DCboid rounds out fifth
In guitars I’m only a learner and as you know I’ve bought a cheap SX Telecaster copy.
These below are my favourites but not in any order.
Gibby/Eppy: Les Paul, SG, Firebird, Dot, Casino, ES125/175 (Thorogood)
Fshape: Strat, Tele,
Gretsch: Falcons, DuoJet (George Harrison & Malcolm Young)
Rick: The John Lennon one :) (325?)
Guilty thought, the PRS Santana Double Cut

Basses: Thunderbird's & P’s, Rick 4001/3,
JC’s & Hofner Beatle to look at
Surprisingly, I’ve been desiring the Gibson LP DC recently

While I realize they have constraints, they could do better than they're doing.
From the 50s(yeah, I'm old)up until the 90s, I could tell you the make and model-and the year within a 3 year window-of most cars, even familial 'twins', i.e. Ford and Mercury from 50 yards +/-. At least American cars. But the laws of aerodynamics and the efforts to achieve better gas mileage dictate that, from the side at least, ya can't tell a Toyota from a Buick from a Nissan from a...etc, etc.
I could tell a 49, 50, or 51 Ford by its grille-or taillights-from ~100 feet. Same with 52-54. Now I can't tell you what the car in front of me is w/o seeing the badge.

I used to do tune-ups on my 69 Econoline(302)with a spark plug socket, a flat blade screwdriver and a credit card to gap the points. I can't do :poop: on my Transit Connect. Can't even see where [stuff] is.

Nothing is set at all just now so......
I was thinking about late July or early August, the weather here is usually quite nice and if anyone's going to explore a little and stay a couple days, that will help. I don't have anything on my books yet for shows that far out, but I'd schedule anything that comes up around the GTG.
Sounds fine. Maybe get with Will and pick the weekend that looks best for you and we can block a few days before and after…

Basses were easier to figure out favorites than treble geetars.

I have a duo-jet that needs a home....

Look at the Yamaha double cutaway guitars, I like them better than the PRS Santana.

Alright weird electronicle question for those that believe in science….

Neck pickup sounds glorious in the neck position of the 3 way switch.

middle position sounds almost the same but a little different… and both pickups are in play.

here’s the funny part, in the bridge position the pickup has half to 1/3rd the volume, sounds nice but not quite right…

neck pickup is reading on the 200k setting at 8.7k

bridge pickup will not read at all on the 200k setting.

switching to 2000k setting I’m reading 952.

center position I’m reading at 200k 8.7.

what is going on with the bridge pickup?

near as I can figure these are single coils and the 47 year old wiring looks to be unmolested and correct although the 3 way switch is one I’m not familiar with, it’s the box type vs the Gibson/switchcraft type.

I would disconnect the bridge pickup and measure it independently. If it's reading 952 ohms, it may have a shorted winding in it.
