Thunderbird Club

So I put the Gibson reissue pickups in my Orville today. Definitely more "60s Tbird" sounding than the pickups that 91 TBPlus that were in it.
Then I thought hmmm, how about running it as a II, with just the one pickup?…
So I bypassed the bridge pot/pickup and it actually does have a little more high end (without the extra pot loading it down). I could happily just play it like that:D
I’ll probably install a pull pot to take out the bridge pot and pickup. If I can find one to fit.

Mine's so much better now.......I didn't like it with the stock pickups, but those 250K pots were not doing it any favors, regardless of what pickups it had in it.

I think George is the, uh, pot expert here. I know he assembled some pull pots for the bird he built. He might have some thoughts about getting one that will fit.

Well, getting one has been on the list. I’ve researched them and will likely add one someday.
I'm not sure how much difference it makes, but I believe that mahogany can help with the creation of some nice tone. For that reason, my suggestion would be one with a mahogany body. But that's just me. But I do love the red in the one above. Brown is not my ideal color.

Id like to see the wiring diagram for this. I have a lot of Fenders P’s that I added a 2nd P-bass pickup in the bridge position and have a V/B/T control layout, and I had always thought that blending out the bridge pickup made it back to a true P-Bass, but I have learned there a little loss at the neck (standard) position if there’s a bridge pup and pot in the circuit at all. It would be good to have the option to make it a true P by simply pulling the bridge volume pot.

I think it's pretty simple, but I'll draw it out and share.

My folks said I could go to any UC except SB (too many hippies in IV) or Santa Cruz (Dad thought their then Pass/Fail grading system was a joke). The friends I had at SB turned out fine, for the most part.
UCSB is pretty well known as a “Party” school, beautiful campus though.

Just checked the camera at the mountain. I think I’ll skip going up there tonight.

It’s just a dusting ;)

And here you have the end result.
With the most excellent work from
@Engle and Luthier Merchantile.

Will you be bringing that one to the GTG Jeff? Would love to hear it!

Huh. I’m digging that purple-blue-grayish burst Mercali 5er. I’ve been wanting a 5er and am thinking a Reverend may work nicely. I have to think on it.
I need to dig my Reverend Rumblefish 5L out of storage and play it a bit more. It has a glorious sound and looks to die for…

B4 University of Miami became known as "The U",

it was called "Suntan U".

I’d love to, but the cost for a guitar to fly is 150.00.
Not gonna happen.
I really wish I could bring it though cause it sounds killer.
I hear ya. $300 for a round trip plus a nice sturdy custom flight case for about $600 and maybe a bit of insurance for another hundred and all the sudden you’re bumping $1000 for one round trip. Guess we need to have next years GTG in Germany at your new place. :D

Back in the day they would let you carry on your bass and store it (stand it ) in the garment compartment. Granted that was 40 years ago.
