Thunderbird Club

I hope you do. Marshall. A great rare(ish) "vintage" instrument without a huge case outlay. Not only do they sound amazing, they feel amazing. Mine does anyway.
I’m one of the bottle opener headstock haters. I like the old headstock. Recall that I’m very shallow. But I’ve liked the G&Ls I’ve played. I understand you have to take a good look at the neck when buying used as some have a rep for developing issues. But I figure if it hasn’t happened yet on an old one, it won’t.

Here I am talking other basses when I need to head into the shed for practice. The ‘15 is calling me……

We have some skillful wiring gurus here. I am learning things. George got me started with some basics. I’m shopping for a soldering setup. Using the connectors is a cool way to go with pots.

I need a refresher with the multimeter and such. I have a bit of a hum issue in the Studio; it’s not horrible but needs to be addressed.
A soldering station with variable heat makes it much easier to do neat work. And get a solder sucker if you don't already have one.

The bulb solder suckers are ok, but the spring loaded versions are much better.
aside from a solder sucker with a suction (compressor) hose, nothing beats this stuff….

I’m pretty sure the “CLF Research” versions of the L1000 and L2000 are still available; they do not have the bottle opener headstock.

Problem is the body is shaped slightly different from the originals.
Nerdy and shallow, that’s me.

@MCF, this is a beauty, here in the classifieds :smug:

I love buying from small shops when I can. One of my favorite local shops here in town announced they are closing at the end of the month. They have a couple nice Reverend basses and a Genzler cab for a great price, but I've been saving for a Tbird or a Rickenbacker...
Buy the basses and/or the cab; sell them; buy whatcha want.

I’m aware. And tried one at a main dealer in Costa Mesa last October. I have too many wants to complete the GAS list at the pace I’m going. The goal is to be done with a nice stable of different basses when I retire.

Jeez. I woke up this AM and got ready to go do chores at the mountain place. But the weather had other ideas so I stayed here and hung out with you guys. Now I’m considering two non-Thunderbirds that I’d love to own.

Got to resist. Got to resist. Got to resist.

See it, buy it. It’s the rule.

this has been on my bucket list for awhile. I saw this for sale in KY a few months back, but the timing was right. Glad you got it!
Thanks. It was the one G&L I really wanted. I saw it and showed my wife how nice it looked and she said make an offer. After getting up off the floor I did. I hate the versions with the black crinkle finish on the bridge and control plate. This one is in fantastic shape. I have a couple other G&Ls and they do not sound like this one. Of course it has the old style pickup and the body is magic Mahogany. The neck is wonderful to play. Kind of right in between a Jazz and a Pbass I guess you could say.

funny you say that. I remember sitting on the beach with my wife on vacation when that bass was posted and I showed it to her and she rolled her eyes. I didn’t bring it up again…
