Thunderbird Club

With so many vintage and slightly used newer basses available, many in like new condition, via Reverb, eBay, CL, etc. I’m surprised any new instruments actually sell, especially if they are at a higher price point. I think there’s far more guitars, basses, drum kits being manufactured and sold at GC,MF, Sweetwater etc. than there are players to buy them. I also believe there are far less people learning to play instruments than there was in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s into the 2000’s. A big shift in direction toward electronic and DJ’s… definitely in my neck of the woods IMO, the music scene, is weak in general, and nothing like it was when I was in my teens, 20’s,30’s,40’s.

Of course it’s very possible I’m just not paying attention, and I have no contact with kids in their 20’-30’s, so maybe I’m just not seeing what’s really going on. I think if I weren’t in active bands it’s likely I may never go out to see any…
It is very vibrant in SoCal. But I think for the most part you are correct. The last rock band that inspired a lot of kids was (cough) Oasis. We need a popular “Taylor Swift” like young rocker to come along. I keep looking.

I think we all suspected it, but Gibson finally has listed the Tbird Original as discontinued on their site. I really wish they'd do a 60's remake. I'd gladly pay up to $3k for one if done correctly.

They make all kinds of Les Paul guitars. I’m afraid that as long as the current CEO, a guitarist with no clue, is in charge we’re in for a long wait.

Ah you’re too kind sir. But brain cells and talent are lacking around here!
Somehow I doubt that. I rotate through most of my basses to keep familiar with them. My Short Scale Tbird is always in the mix. Every once in awhile I also play my 7ender Mustang. Usually when I’m traveling. The shorty TBird is too rare to risk traveling with.

If only they made them in those sexy shapes we all love-

They do, or at least they did. RIP, John Diggins (JayDee).
