So many basses!

Is that Beauty yours? Sharp color and Super Duty 455 too!

No, it belongs to my model train bestie, Bill. We've been friends for 35 years now, great guy. If you want to see it and several very nice GTO's the GTG will likely make a short trip for a visit, you're welcome to come along!

Did you run both tubes with the same settings? In that, I agree you can hear the difference, but the lower grain tube will sound the same as the higher grain tube if you just push it a little harder, or push the other a little less.
Hmmm, maybe I should switch from high grain alcohol to high grain tubes. :roflmao:

tried EBCF and they’re nothing like rounds imho…
I’d agree they don’t sound like rounds, but I’d also note they are one of the least traditional flatwound sound strings out there.

OMG, the dreaded MXA!

At first thought for rounds, maybe something round core Boomer RCs, Sunbeams, etc. Pure nickels of some kind also might be the opposite of the aggressiveness of the EBCFs. All the above would have great lows, some soft highs but subtle mids, in my experience.
I find the EBCF to be strong in the bottom and mids with adequate defined top end. So probably a bit too close to boomers.

The only setting is the gain knob. On both it was adjusted to read an average LUFS of -15 on my WMS plug-in.
That being said, there's absolutely no way you'll get a 12au7 to break up….
Neil Sedaka would agree with you…
