Thunderbird Club

I'll take Pacific North West beaches any day.
Or Southern France.
When it comes to pristine jaw dropping scenic beauty nothing beats a Pacific Northwest beach (anything an hour north of San Francisco all the way to Canada). When it comes to beautiful sexy people watching, warm sun and big beaches it’s hard to beat Malibu or Santa Monica. If it’s a freak show you’re after look no further than Venice or Muscle Beach. If you’re considering surfing then don’t miss Hawaii or Mavericks at Half Moon Bay. If you want to wade out into the surf a couple hundred yards into warm crystal clear water you’d best stay away from the west coast, save that for the east coast and gulf or better yet visit any one of a thousand different places in Hawaii or Polynesia or the Caribbean or Australia or… you name it.

Nice ‘74. No wrap around rear glass is good, but the post ‘70-‘73 nose piece is not for me. I imagine the original HP ratings for that beast of a motor were surprisingly low being 1974… However I’d guess that’s been rectified by the current owner?

I like the '70-'73 much better too, the SD455 is stock, all original so it's worth some $$$, he (my buddy, Bill) has this '71 as well, he says he's going to sell it - which makes me sad 'cause it's my fave.

Yes, this!!! No bird on the hood and still some decent HP, but still less than a ‘70 I’d guess. A 1970 version of this in white with blue stripe would be a favorite, but a 1970 Formula with a 455 would be my ultimate favorite. In black (I think John Wayne actually co-starred with a black one once), or the dark green would be my dream car.

Why do you think they discontinued it?
They probably read about all the horrible attributes Tbirds have - uncontrollable neck dive, randomly exploding headstocks, one trick pony’s, mud buckers, fall apart three point bridges, legendarily horrible quality control, ergonomic disasters and grossly overpriced pieces of trash. I suspect they intend to rectify those issues with a new color offering. ;)

disclaimer: just doing my part to drive the demand for these damn fine basses down so I can afford to buy more of them. :)

Reminds me of my '79 Telecaster Bass with everything but the kitchen sink!View attachment 5365342
What! No Tbird pickup! Not even a Stingray pup! Slacker!:D

And what's going on with the tailpiece?
I guess the builder felt 13 birds on the bass just weren’t enough of a clue that it’s supposed to be a Tbird, so he made a bird shaped tail piece as well. Makes perfect sense to me, in an over the top OCD kinda way.

Quick question for the string gurus out there - sound wise, what bass string would be the polar opposite to an Ernie Ball Cobalt Flat?

The reason I’m asking is because I’m running a bit of a test here to see just how much different I can make two roughly identical basses sound with just a string change, and conversely, can I EQ the two different string basses to sound roughly the same with just the onboard passive controls or playing technique. In this case, I have two Goth basses I’ll use for the test.

You know me, always experimenting, should be fun. Will try to post the sound results.

I like the Greco because it’s a DC AND it has Greco pickups, but this sumbich has really got my head turned…

I have had it in my cart for weeks and I keep hoping someone buys it so I don’t have to. I also keep telling myself it probably weighs 18lbs to discourage myself…

Aria Pro Ⅱ CSB-450 Cardinal Series Bass Made in Japan Medium Scale with Gigbag | eBay
Shipping is a bit steep on it, but it's also a bit rare now. I wish Aria still made stuff like they used to. Also wish I'd bought a couple when I was young.

Sorry Dave. But SoCal beaches are second to none.
The snow white sand beaches of west FL and AL are awfully stunning. Not to mention how the quartz in the sand makes the water have an amazing turquoise look and can be crystal clear in some places. I've never seen anything like it. East coast beaches are gray or brownish in color and nothing like the Gulf.
