Thunderbird Club

It's not a matter of hiding sloppiness behind it to me. There are other tones that have the same revealing quality. It is an irritating sound. It's an awful swampy light green color that has all the charm of a pond full of algae. If other people think it's great, that's fine with me. No judgment, but I just hate it.
light green swampy algae HUH?!….

 Egg-zackly!

I'm pretty sure there's a sound in a J that I would like and use. It's not like JPJ, Flea, and about a zillion others couldn't find a great sound somewhere lurking in a J. Thing is that I am happy with the sound I get from a Precision, Thunderbird, or any of the other bass guitars I already own. So there's no point in a Jazz for me.

Now, I have no use for tort on an electric bass. That's a different issue.
If you can reverse hearing colors, what does tort sound like?

And then there's the current trend toward overamplifying the low frequencies at the expense of mids. That turns to mush in a hurry. Even the kick drum sounds awful when you do that. Not that I'm judgmental or opinionated in any way. Nope. Not a bit.
I've been to a few concerts where the thump of the kick drum obliterates any tone from the bass.

Most of the Fenders I've played didn't do it for me. There was a J I liked, and not just for the neck. It was going through a REDDI directly to the board. Pretty sure it was stock, but no idea what year or what strings were on it.
How to make a J sound great.....

It’s especially good that I don’t care for the classic 3TSB at all, and both of mine started as 3TSB, and naturally over time change to my preferred choice of 2TSB.
Yes, I'm not a 3TSB fan either. If I found one that was fantastic (many are) I would consider it, but would be praying it wasn't: 1) 3TSB, and worse, 2) Antigua. Ken likes them as I recall, but I just can't, especially after they age.
