Thunderbird Club

I thought about putting heavy Bass Burners on the '01 and Flamingo, but I have decided to put standard weight strings on those for the comparison experiment. I hated Bass Burners when I first put a set of heavy strings on the Flamingo, but once they broke in, they were fantastic sounding. I never filed the nut, and that bass has EBCFs on it now. They don't seem to age. The heavy Bass Burners are on the '01, and it is beginning to sound dead. Time for new strings. Two sets of Bass Burners are on their way. The '15 currently has tapes on it, and those seem especially suited to that bass. I don't remember what strings are on the 2013 EB. It's got DeColas, but it's also an ash body, so it's naturally brighter than the '15. Going for a full rip your face off sound out of that one is probably going to be the goal.

I used to put Black Beauties on everything. I can't think of anything that has Black Beauties on it right now, with the exception of the fretless. Funny how our ears and preferences change over time.

Constantly working to find the right string, for the type of bass (long scale, short, fretless, etc.) that will be tuned (E,Eb,D), and to get the sound I want out of it. Once I find a combo I like, I note it….

I'll take one of these, thanks.

Yes, but ya need to reverse the pic so the steering wheel is on the 'correct'-not right-side.

"Color uncertain"? Yeah. Right.
I like burst Firebirds. The choice will come down to what is available when I’m ready. I almost bought the bottom Gibson model in Pelham Blue in 2018 when they were around $500 during the GC Guitar-A-Thon sale. But that particular model was a POS. At least the couple that I tried were. The current top end Epiphones are reportedly stellar; I haven’t been able to try one though. So we’ll see.
Edit: 2016 not 2018. Time flies.

Is that a T-Bird pickguard on a G&L? As usual JIO pulls out another very cool bass!

It's my T2K Mk II (Tele 2000 - second iteration) Started life as a brand new '06 CIJ Fender '51 P RI - only the second new bass I've ever bought. I originally finished it in trans brown (1st iteration), but later had Marty Bell finish it in piano-black w/trans brown back. I did all the mods including creme binding and G&L L-2000 pu's & 9v pre. I also did extensive routing under the Gen II Tele-bass pg I cut for it to lighten the ash body. Leo's legacy basically.

I had a pretty nice NR Firebird for awhile ~25 years ago. I don't play gee-tar. It was gonna be for a band I was thinking of putting together with matching Fire and Thunder Birds-a 'project' that went nowhere. Sold it.

Frank has four Epi's they're all pretty nice players, I like the Joe Bonamassa sig he bought in Santa Cruz the best, the new burgundy mist one is right there too.

I agree. I will buy two guitars in the next two to three years. A LPB 7ender Tele and a Firebird (either Epi or Gibson, color uncertain).
One of the best looking guitars I have ever seen is a PB Firebird like Peter Stroud played. The pic doesn't do it justice. I love the frost blue as well. If I bought another guitar I would buy the Epi version.

Interesting BaCH? Fenderbird on Reverb. I don't recall ever seeing a BaCH Fbird with a Pbass body but I wasn't paying much attention outside of the NRs. I do remember the red Peter Cook inspired Fbird they made which, IIRC had a neck just like this one. This is the seller I got my recent BaCH NR IV from. He was great to deal with, packing was excellent and shipping was 3 days from Sweden to NY via UPS.

Deal of the Day!

Those who know me understand that I’m an Epi Fan Boy. But I do love my Gibsons.

Anywho. This a stellar deal for a new (second) Epi IV. $360 includes shipping. Great as a mod platform or someone’s first Thunderbird. Add a set of Lollars, or the Gibson Moderns that are now available, or a set of the Gibson Reissues and have a wonderful Thunderbird at a reasonable price. Were I not on a buying hiatus, I’d pull the trigger myself, mod it, and paint it Pelham Blue.

Those pickups go for $300.00 a piece. May be worth someone taking a chance on.

That one is the proper color. If Epiphone had made a two pickup version with a trem in that color, I would probably have to spend money. They didn't, so I didn't have to. The blue ones sure look good, though. But I'm not Marshall, so there it is. 1950s and 1960s Cadillac and Oldsmobile Burgundy Mist Metallic, for those who think in car color terms. As is appropriate since that's where an awful lot of electric instrument colors came from.
