The set of EBCFs-#2814, 45/65/80/100, installed 09/27/23-currently on the 67NR(and will be for quite awhile)are really working out great. Because I tend to EQ bassier than alotta y'all, I want my D and G strings to not sound like a gee-tar down an octave, even if I happen to go up near fret #12. The A and E, at 80 and 100, are plenty bottomy w/o being boomy.

There was one time(unfortunately on videotape)when we were playing "Theme From 'Black Orpheus'*"[jazz set], I got completely lost. Normally I have no problem with that tune but I just 'went away'. I'd guess no one in the audience noticed, but I suddenly became aware that I had no effing idea where I was-in the song, or in general.

I have had that happen on Black Orpheus. It's relatively simple, but I blanked. It wasn't on video though.

The last partial visible here was in 2018 (?) Or was it ‘19? I had been at the coast for work and was heading back on Hwy 166. The coast was fogged in so hundreds of cars headed east from Santa Maria to see it. It was crazy. Some had some pretty elaborate equipment on the side of the road.

…part of being a good player is succeeding at covering up these flubs, to outright disasters, well enough to not be noticed by the audience. Harder to get by the band mates, but I have managed to get some by them as well.

My daughter was playing a chamber ensemble concert the other day. On one of the pieces she had to hit a number of harmonics way up near the end of the fingerboard and they were chords....
Unusual for classical music, the composer was in the audience.
I didn't notice anything wrong and likely the composer was the only one in the room who might have. She told me she flubbed most of them, but he still came up after the show and complimented her.

Big thanks to @Engle for sending me some replacement decals for the many pickguards and TRCs he made fit me. I wanted a lot of options for my Gibsons and Eppi ‘birds. Since there are two different screw patterns for my Gibson ‘birds PG’s, I have quite a few (single solid black, 3-ply B-W-B, for both Gibson patterns and for my VP, plus TRC’s for both, single ply black and 3-ply, for both Gibson and the VP). Originally some had dull silver logos, and I decided that didn’t work with the basses with nickel hardware, and that’s pretty much all of them but one. Rather than get even more PG’s, TRC’s, I asked if he would be able to just send more decal/logos, along with clear instructions on removing and replacing.

I also wanted to change my VP’s TRC logo from just “Gibson”, to “Epiphone by Gibson” and have it fit on the TRC he originally made for me with a dull silver “Gibson” logo.

I changed all the logos/birds I didn’t like to the new ones he sent with nary a problem! Now I have A LOT of extras, but if I want to switch from solid black to 3-ply B-W-B on any bass I can.

And now I’m not “false advertising” on my VP:

As he should have. If he didn't think so he should have had the class to keep it to himself. I'm sure she did an outstanding job and his piece was represented very well.

I've got some friends lined up later this week and will give my views. @WillyW turned me on to PG strings when I bought his NR T-Bird and I like the pairing with the T-Bird pickups.
BTW...I have mostly used D'Addario Round wounds forever!

Love to hear your thoughts on the PG strings. D’Addario rounds are my go to string for a lot of my new bass purchases. They are a very neutral sounding string and always give me a good feel for which way I might want to take a bass on the next string change.

Sounds great Mike! Really nicely balanced (slightly bass forward, as it should be) band. The sax sat in there perfect and the vocals weren’t overbearing, everything mixed just the way I like it. Even a sane drummer without a heavy hand. What more could you ask for. The casino did sound good. I’d be interested to hear what your setup was on the EB (tone knob, pickup, strings).

It's funny how little some audience members notice. You can hit an awful clam that makes the whole band wince, and if you don't break the groove, the audience forgets it immediately.

I've noticed personally and also hearing from other bands, often the worse the band thinks they played, the better the audience thought they did. It's so weird.

I was laughing because it happens to me. The worst brain cramp I had was backing a couple female vocalists who were absolutely stellar individually. Together, they could melt steel. We were playing Love Shack, which isn't a hard song to play if you pay a little attention. When the two of them kicked it into gear for their part of that song, I just flat forgot everything. There were a couple other times during that show I found myself listening to them instead of paying attention to what I was supposed to be doing. They were inspiring to play behind.
