Please no comments on my appalling lack of self control. I waited over a year for the new Thunderbirds to be released and had already picked Ember Red. I was not happy one with the changes made nore tge example first shipped. The House of Guitars just got a second one on and it's a keeper! I would avoid a water wipe-down unless you want to raise the grain. Are you going to do a translucent or opaque finish?

I would always do that multiple times before a tung oil finish. Raise the grain, polish it off, raise the grain, polish it off, etc. When it doesn't raise, then it is time for the finish coats. Mahogany just glows if you do that. Maple does not respond as well. Walnut, especially air dried, sure does.

I've seen scarf joints on many instruments but that one looks a little different...not bad just more complex.

That’s a snapped headstock repair I did. It was completely broken off at the nut.

I think this is bogus. JT Cure recently bought this bass from a TBer.

I thought that was it at first, but it has another pick guard on it and thought unlikely. But I'm thinking you're right about the bogus listing part. Not that he would ever need to mention it, but J.T. never mentioned he was selling/sold it. He liked it, so that does seem odd. Original pics from the TBer maybe. But hey, we musicians have no problem buying and selling. But it does seem odd.

Limba - my guess also.

Looks to be Limba in the close up shots, I’d like to see a shot of the whole bass body from a few feet away. Close ups of wood tell me nothing, need to see how the grain flows and the overall color.

They are also auctioning this one which we've seen before - 1966 Gibson Thunderbird IV Non Reverse Bass Guitar Cardinal Red Finish *REPAIR* | eBay

You would think they would put a description in the ad.

The description would have to read - impossible to intonate. Look where those original bridge inserts were, how far they moved the bridge towards the neck and the final resting spot for each saddle all the way back against the back of the bridge. Could be fixed easily enough but a hassle none the less.

There should be a special place in hell for people that knowingly and gleefully take advantage of other people.
