Don’t mind the floor, it’s an unfinished ceiling and the Mesa likes to shake off some of the insulation and stuff.

Well... gilding/gold-leafing has been done on guitars for a while, so nothing particularly 'innovative' on that Sandberg. Like any "look" - it's how it's done on what it is done on that is either innovative or at least interesting. Having the base-coat RED is possibly alluding to the classic/traditional undercoat for gold-leaf which is not RED, but instead is red oxide https://www.amazon.com/Red-Iron-Oxi...8a2cd44a8a2d3c7490fa1b00f85a4aab&gad_source=1 which is more of a brick-red.

Not crazy about the way that finish looks - I have definitely done what they 'attempted' to do... better. Not bragging - I have done art long enough to know when I'm better.

God I forgot about that bulldozer!
It is a 2008, rumour has it they only made two white ones that year which I’m starting to believe. The only other “2008” white one I saw for sale was actually a 2006(IIRC) per the serial number.

variegated green-gold leaf -

etched copper-leaf -

Gold-leaf over brown-burst factory finish - similar to the Sandberg... but better.

Distressed silver-leaf over black over factory turquoise metallic finish - Chris Kuffner's bass used touring with Ingrid Michelson -

Most recently, an Epi VP with distressed gold-leaf over red-oxide - final finished by Pat Wilkins.

Chris Kuffner playing his Gary Fried custom bass with my lemon gold leaf finish - he played both basses (including the silver-leafed Lakeland above) live and on Ingrid Michelson's YouTube vids.

For a while, I did Only the Lonely on upright and vocals. In D, otherwise the low is too low and the high is too high. I sure don't sound like Roy Orbison.

That is very artistic! I know gold leaf is a pretty fragile material. My Dad was a sign painter and he used gold leaf on some of the jobs. Do you spray a clear coat on after applying the gold foil?

If you haven't watched the doc on his last performance - it's a good, but somewhat difficult watch. The positive take-away is how his creative soul overcame his illness. A testimony to the creative spirit.

I can understand that. They are family.

That very kind of you, Ken. I was so happy we got to meet and you were able to see Grady. He wasn't having the best of days. Normally he would have treated you as if you were his best friend he hadn't seen in years. He loved his people more than air or food, and everyone was his new best friend. But he was really winding down.

I ran across a Stapleton song about their family dog of many years. Play it at the right/wrong time and tissues will be needed.
