Thunderbird Club

I've done a bit sign-painting, but it wasn't my forté - it's pretty tricky stuff. More murals and graphics on walls & ceilings and custom finishes on just about anything interior & exterior.

Yes, any gilding requires a protective clear-coat. Your dad probably used lacquer, brushed on or sprayed on. I've used tung-oil, poly and lacquer as a clear coat. When I want a 'factory' clear coat, I seal it with a specific gilding acrylic (thinner-based) and send it to Pat Wilkins to final finish. Leafing can vary in thickness from super thin (very fragile) to slightly thicker, but is still fragile. It comes in booklets/leaflets (what I use) or on a roll, for bigger usually architectural related jobs. It comes in varying karat in a range from 6kt "White" to 24kt "Fine Gold" and in a variety of colours. (Roman gold, Lemon gold, Moon gold etc)

You bring to mind an interview I once read decades ago in Guitar Player magazine where Jazz guitarist Tal Farlow stated that he augmented his musical income with sign painting-

Some rest on both lower crossbars, some don’t. Not a particularly great design for racking Tbirds but it works and seems stable enough. One of these days I’ll just design and build my own proper rack.

Thx! It’s a fun room with tons of great options in just about every possible bass flavor, but certainly heavy on the Tbird end right now. Sitting at 22 birds today with no real duplicates, the substantial variety and number of options (I’m talking physical tone shaping and significant changes, not just color or logo changes) in the Tbird world are much greater than most would believe.

The invite is out there for anyone that might be curious about a specific model Tbird and how it compares to other birds or non birds to drop on by and play a while. Marshall has imbibed a couple of times, all club members are welcome.
I have a rack that is better suited for TBirds but I don’t know the brand or where I got it :banghead:
