Thunderbird Club

I’m just blown away with how much people know about their gear these days…
The first real bass I played* was a USN issued 66(?)EB-3, so I got the opportunity to sort of suck-while I learned-on it. Once I was outta the 'canoe club', I bought my own in 68. In 70, I saw my first-that I knew of-Thunderbird. Thus began my quest. Three years later I found the 67 NR and once I got used to it[pretty quickly], I was done searching. If I'd've been smarter-:roflmao:-I never would've sold the EB-3 and therefore wouldn't have bought-and sold-the EpiBird 5er, the Epi EB-3L, and the Squire VM Jaguar SS. I did keep the LPB2/5(though I rarely use it)and the Ibanez semi-hollow[for upright gigs since I don't play UB].

* I don't really count the POS Philippine Beatle Bass copy I bought in my Navy days.

I saw him I think three times in the seventies IIRC. The Diamond Dogs tour where each song was a different set and costume. Amazing. The Station tour as the Thin White Duke. And a show that was mostly Low and Heros. All amazing. All Bowie. I enjoyed all of it. I only saw one show with Gail Anne. It too was incredible.

Was the Diamond Dogs tour with Tony Newman and Herbie Flowers or with Greg Errico and Doug Rauch? The latter rhythm section is featured on "Cracked Actor" document film.

What 9v battery is everyone using for their active basses?
Whatever I take out of the smoke detectors (after a year of doing nothing but waiting for the power to go off). Typically a name brand. But not always. Two G&Ls are my only active basses. I very, very rarely use active, so they last years and years.

I dare anyone to provide any evidence that dogs are not better drivers that at least 60% of human drivers.

My number one requirement was a good concert, but I was never adverse to a good show along with that. In either 74 or 75, ELP put on a phenomenal show, but I missed most of it, first puking and then wandering in circles around the Omni, unable to find my seat but having a great time otherwise. I could tell by the light spilling from the doorways and the crowd that there was something special going on. Eventually I came out of the hallucinatory fog[1] enough to check my ticket stub. I got to my seat just in time for the last song or two, which were without fireworks, theatrics, etc.
[1] A hazard of taking huge hits off whatever strangers were passing down the row at the concert.
Once smoked some stuff in the parking lot with some cool strangers before a concert. Said something afterwards about it having angel dust. The opening act was like dream or out of body experience. There, but not there.... Hope they were good. I enjoyed myself being where ever I was. But never did that again.

I don’t have any basses anymore that take batteries, but when I did they were the Fender USA Deluxe P and J’s which could be switched from passive to active. To me, the best ones to use are the Energizer 9V Lithium. Lithium batteries won’t leak, so they can stay in place a long time and if forgotten about, you won’t open the battery storage compartment and find alkaline (or whatever that white powder stuff is) all over everything. Since I mostly used these basses in passive mode, the batteries (these were 18v) might be in the compartment and rarely switched on, but even after a few years, when I did switch to active, they were still ready for action. I’m sure they could sit in the bass for 5-10 years without any problem with leakage and still be strong.

Well, I can only speak for the new NR. I don't ever recall playing a 60s version.
Even with my EB-3, I always slung my bass(es) kinda low, so I never had a problem reaching first fret notes. Even fewer problems hitting open notes.:smug:
It's a little different now that I prop my fazaza on a stool* b/c my knees and feets won't stand up to standing up to play. So whatever bass I'm using-mostly the 'Bird-isn't as low as I used to 'wear' them.

*FWIW, my keester is on the front half of the stool; left foot on cross bar; right foot just touching the floor(TMI?)

And typically much better company. Present company may be the only humans on a par with dogs for the latter.

The update on the fire. Turns out LLNL was doing controlled burns but they claim the fire had nothing to do with them even though Cal Fire says that is exactly where the fire started. I smell insurance lawsuits...right Marshall?

The bad news is that the neighbor's dog kennel (massive structure), which is right on the property line (violated the set back rules) burned and created enough heat to melt our metal barn. It is brooding season and we had 100 baby chicks in the brooder tower inside the barn. :crying:

I guess we are lucky as 3 homes in the same area burned down.
That sucks. Glad your house didn't get hit.

Lemme tell y'all. I drove 18's for 23 years. Thought I'd seen dang near everything possible. Nope! More vehicles on not wide enuff roads; more people doing really stupid [stuff]; just about 1/2+ the people supposedly driving doing sumpin' else while aiming their(whatever)down the road; many thinking they're entitled to be ahead of everyone else and so on.
Most of our gigs start @ 6 or 6:30, which means for me to drive there to set up* ~1 hour B4 downbeat, I gots to drive in afternoon rush hour insanity. Onliest thing I don't like about the early-ish gigs.[most gigs are 10-15 miles from the house.] *if I'm providing the PA-if not, 30-45 minutes B4(I hate being rushed)

From last night. And the sound isn't great and this is kinda long. I wouldn't move much, due to lack of space. If the first set gets on youtube you can all laugh at the upright spinning debacle that happened.

My shirt and bass matched, more or less. If I was Veronica, it would have absolutely been intentional. I am not Veronica, so it was a happy error.

This is pure dad band in action. The audience was happy. All 12 of them. We had more fun.

Great to see the video. But who is playing bass? Not a real bass player. I thought he was at first, but about 6 min into it he was smiling and having a good time. Sure giveaway. Real bass players don't smile and laugh. The weight of the band is resting on them too much for such nonsense and wasted energy. When a bass player looks constipated....you know they are serious.
