Products - BALANCED NICKELS - GHS Strings
SIT Power Wounds are about as close as I've run across to Boomers. Not the same, but close. Boomers seem to have slightly bigger or pronounced lows and maybe low mids. I haven't flipped those strings for some time, but I think the above should be close to accurate. Of course, much of string perception is enhanced/detracted by what they are being played on and then through. As Heraclitus once said, "Things do different things on different things."I really wanted to try GHS Bass Boomers on the Carvin, but GHS doesn't do 50-105. Funny, since they do make 50 and 70; they just don't package them. Oh well. Other brands do.
I already had a sunburst Thunderbird, but I always kind of craved a white one, and they seem to be one of the rarer "standard" colors, so when I had a little extra money and one popped up on the market, how could I say no?

There's just something very classic about a white Tbird, IMO...

I so wanted to love those nickels, but they never worked. They have more punch that might be expected and are not boomy. I'll have to try D'A again. I never got along with them. I have several sets from when basses came with them. One day I will revisit. My '21 NR had their Steels. Came right off after the first rehearsal.coolI still like GHS but switched to D'Addario's on many of my basses.
Our house is 1906. They don't build 'em like that anymore, and it's a good thing. There are some structural miracles in our house. As in how did they even do that and how does it stand up? Let alone stand up over 100 years. If you have 2x12 joists under that cabinet, running perpendicular to the cabinet, no problems. If it's sitting on the middle of one joist, it's probably fine as long as you don't see any deflection. It is really sturdy. Circa 1979. They don’t build things like that anymore.

Thanks. I've read much the same elsewhere. In a mix, probably not worth thinking about the GHS when the Power Wounds already come in the gauges I like. Maybe that was "You cannot step into the same river twice." I forget.

This really is an affliction.

I like Chromes on on the 7ender P and their tapes on the Epi TV Silver LE CS. I don’t care for tone of their nickels, although I kinda like the texture of them.I so wanted to love those nickels, but they never worked. I think we've milked that subject enuff.Much slower when it's raining...
That TRC (truss rod cover) has gotta go. The bridge is probably an improvement, but I have my doubts about that pickup being original. Other than that, very cool.Dang that is sharp but 99% of those slot heads had headstock repairs. It looks good in pix and price isn’t outrageous if real Mudbucker. What’s up with TRC? Ha!

Trombone - the fretless bass of the brass world. As an ex-saxist, where every finger presses a key, I need frets. Playing by position doesn't 'cut it' for me.
Home inspectors are very hit an miss (heavy on the miss). Even the one's with good recommendations miss things. In part because they want to get in an out, and it takes time to really look for things not on their scripted check list. Helpful in pointing out some things, yes. But that's about it. Some are just awful, unfortunately.I’ll watch it.
They will be moved to the basement in due course once everything is out from the closet they were/are in at the other house. Then I’ll disassemble the shelves in the closet and move them to the basement here. Those will be on the concrete foundation and bolted to the basement wall.
It has taken two years, a handful at a time, to move up what is here. It’ll be another year or so to finish it all. My wife isn’t thrilled that I filled the loft with them and I promised her that they’ll all go to the basement before we’re here full time. I’ll set up a really nice stereo system down there and leave the Bluetooth turntable up here that runs through the av system (Polk Audio system that came with the house).
I should have you down to do an assessment of the house. A home inspector said everything was in good shape when we bought the place, but there are a couple things I’ve noticed that may need attention. And we’ll be building a garage with another room above it in a few years anyway.
That’s my sweater and jersey number for all sports.
The TRC looks goofy, but I think it’s stock, unless the same person made the one in Rob’s Gibson Bass book:Dang that is sharp but 99% of those slot heads had headstock repairs. It looks good in pix and price isn’t outrageous if real Mudbucker. What’s up with TRC? Ha!
