Thunderbird Club

Thanks to Ken, he alerted me to these.
If they’re anything like the Dunlops.
I’ll be super happy.

I still have the Gibson branded short scale nickels on the shorty that I bought and put on it when I got it. I’m not in love with them, but they’re ok. I think I want something a bit brighter to replace them.

I’m looking at Roto 66 short scale stainless rounds and Dunlop Super Brights. The SIT Power Steels don’t come in short scale from what I can tell. Ken Smith makes some short scale stainless rounds that I might try.

That’s encouraging for you Donnie. I played mine quite a bit on Tuesday and absolutely love the tone from it. Once I get the BaCH pickup routing done, I think those two will be vying to be my No. 2. At this juncture, I think I like the BaCH’s thinner neck a bit better. But my ‘21 NR is a great Thunderbird.
Yes, I was for once getting happy about the tone getting better. We will see. I've had times of playing in rehearsal testing things out and was feeling good then next time wasn't impressed. And I don't fiddle with things, so it wasn't anything I was doing that changed. So we'll see, but I'm hopeful. I enjoy playing it. It looks fantastic. Always sounds good at home (which is not where I need it to sound good). So hopefully I'm turning a corner with it. I don't want to sell it. There are a ton out there and with the case, shipping would double the cost. (Slight exaggeration.)

Since those Gibsons are SS.
I think they’ll work just fine for my tastes.
Never been a fan of nickel.

I have EBCF shorts on one of mine and love them. I also have the GHS balanced nickel short set and they are really nice too.
Just not an EBCF kinda guy Richard. I tried. I think I’m just getting set in my ways. My ears seem to like stainless rounds best. Especially with the Tbird+ pickups which are what’s in the Gibson shorty.

Possibly, but since I have all the basses I "need", there's little point. The Squire Vintage Modified Jaguar I had wasn't bad, but with the arthritis-or whatever-in my left thumb, playing a 3 hour gig on its neck profile was painful. Sold it and got an Epi EB-0-with a very familiar feeling neck. Both are my designated backup/tight spaces basses. BTW, the J pup was useless.

I have one of those short scale Jaguars. There is nothing Pbass about it except for the pickup.

I have a few sets of short scale rounds I think I do not want, I really like the EBCF’s and GHS boomers have on the three shorty’s I have, plus I like heavier sets as well. Would you be interested in buying what I have?

I was surprised I liked its tone as much as I did. The 10 +/- minute test at GC was fine, but any longer than ~20 minutes and my left hand hurt like...a lot. Damn shame, but it hadda go.
And after all the mods I did to it.(ashtray and custom thumb rest)

I really wanted to try GHS Bass Boomers on the Carvin, but GHS doesn't do 50-105. Funny, since they do make 50 and 70; they just don't package them. Oh well. Other brands do.

I spent time trying them at the long gone Cerritos Sam Ash store. That was around eight years ago when I was looking for a compact bass to travel with. I wasn’t sold on the tone. I ended up with a MIM Mustang that came out around that time instead. The pickups in the Fender are fine for what it is.

GHS do balanced nickel sets now? One reason I use D'Addario. I've used GHS Progressives and Precision Flats - I still have a couple basses with them.
