The fire that started in Gorman Saturday was a warning. All because some idiot towing a horse trailer on I5 was dragging a dropped chain that emitted enough sparks to start brush on fire and burn thousands of acres, several cars and buildings, close the freeway for hours and otherwise adversely effect the lives of several thousand people. And the fire danger sign warnings were at low risk.

I love California. But it’s many of the people who live here, most non-natives, who give me pause. I grew up being taught all the precautions we need to take. Check and double check everything. All it takes is one negligent idiot to ruin things.

My first grade school crush was Tobie in 4th grade. She disappeared early in 5th grade because her dad was transferred to Japan with his military unit. I was devastated.
We reconnected a few years ago (thanks to her husband seeing a post I made about us in 4th grade, within just a couple of hours of my making it). She was doing fine last I heard.

Big Todd/Utopia guy here. Yeah, I pretty much love everything. He was also a remarkable producer (his work with XTC notwithstanding, not everything works). Another Utopia Live is a fabulous disc. A lawyer huh, she obviously had a personality flaw.

And Neil was really popular with the girls I knew in HS. I remember a bus ride to school when I was a sophomore before I got my license. A cute freshman girl got on at the next stop and was carrying a copy of After the Goldrush. Naturally, I had to chat her up. She was a rabid fan, even had all the Springfield albums. Tried as I might, she wouldn’t go out with me. Her parents had a no dating until she was sixteen rule. She couldn’t even come over to the house to flip discs. Ugh. But we were music friends until they moved the next year. I wonder from time to time whatever became of her…I can’t even recall her name.

What other word is there but SWEEEEET!!! :bassist: When I attended (undergrad) Art School in KC/MO (KCAI) in '69, a dorm friend (also from Omaha) was a musician who knew a bass-player in a big R&B/Soul band (in Omaha) who played the then brand-new Fender fretless P. (natural finish, maple neck/fb) I saw their performance and was blown away by his playing on that fret-less. I owned a '68 EB3 at the time and the summer between my freshman & sophomore year I had the frets professionally pulled. This was pre knowing who Jaco was...

I have had/played a few fret-less basses over the years and currently own only one fret-less (Factorbird) but I highly recommend owning at least one. To make the transition easier - just get a fret-less like the fretted bass you are familiar with. I know, this is hard for a T-bird owner... a Fender fretted/fret-less P or J will be the most optimal to master in this regard because you will be familiar w/the fb. But regardless - much of the difficulty in transitioning to fretless from a fretted bass is exaggerated. If you are a long time player - I guarantee you will assimilate quickly. And don’t fuss over “sounding like Jaco, or Pino” ... just play it. I don’t incorporate my Factorbird that often into live shows - but I can pick it up and play it anytime w/o the slightest hesitation. Just do it!

We had a pear tree in our back yard growing up - I loved eating them, still love pears. I was picking them once and fell out of the tree. It knocked the wind out of me - never felt that before and I thought I was going to die!
