This is/would be far more counterculture than anything hippies did in in the 60s. Like choosing to maintain one's virginity at a nudest colony. (I did see some pics once where that would not be a challenge.)

TB is my only social media and I live a satisfied life not knowing so much about far too many people's business. I have no problems with others benefiting, but I personally choose the benefit for me is not being on it.

I agree - opting out of the social media BS would be extreme in today's f'd up world.

A tb friend on the Luthiers Corner I frequent recently posted this, which I should post as a "by-line"... "In my experience, the majority of bass players I've met and spoken with in real life, are not on TalkBass" ... as in, so much BS here -

We had a pear tree in our back yard growing up - I loved eating them, still love pears. I was picking them once and fell out of the tree. It knocked the wind out of me - never felt that before and I thought I was going to die!

Age 12(?) I fell 12-15 feet from a tree flat on my back. Couldn't breathe, bad pain, thought I was dying. Fifteen minutes later, back in the tree.

Is your house wooden? I ask because in Wellington NZ (in an earthquake zone) a lot of the houses are wooden. I asked about it and was told they handle earthquakes (the flex I guess?) better than brick houses.


Well, also she had an Aussie manager who had her regularly doing the Aussie circuit between Ike and her big solo career. It kept her working and getting paid.
We love some Tina Turner down here.


My street has ornamental (non fruiting) Pear trees as street trees.

They are a pain in the be hind.

Bradford pears? They’re known as invasive now.

We see them most every day. But then we might go a few days and not see any. Lately it's been every day.

There are 2-3 herds that live in or near our neighborhood. It’s rare we don’t see at least a few each day.

Well not here as in our club. But it is mostly BS in the GP. I learn a lot here, from the Mesa Club, and a few other threads, like Jeremy’s, and your build threads.

Big, wide reaching trees. Flowers like tiny tissue confetti that sticks on cars and footpaths, and only last a week or two anyway. Drops a gazillion leaves in autumn.

I think I heard at one point that they were Japanese pears, but who knows?

Yah, some relative sanity in a sea of social media insanity... I guess my point is that there is a lot of BS on all social media, including tb. It's more about combing the BS to find what's worth 'following'. And thank you for referring to my Luther Corner build threads favorably - FTR, LC is one of the most level-headed threads on tb. A veritable "no BS" thread. It is all and only about people focused on creativity via bass guitars.

Well, $250 in '73=~$1804 today(+/-), so about what a 2021 NR goes for now-except red. They're worth more 'cos they sound better.

What other word is there but SWEEEEET!!! When I attended (undergrad) Art School in KC/MO (KCAI) in '69, a dorm friend (also from Omaha) was a musician who knew a bass-player in a big R&B/Soul band (in Omaha) who played the then brand-new Fender fretless P. (natural finish, maple neck/fb) I saw their performance and was blown away by his playing on that fret-less. I owned a '68 EB3 at the time and the summer between my freshman & sophomore year I had the frets professionally pulled. This was pre knowing who Jaco was...

I have had/played a few fret-less basses over the years and currently own only one fret-less (Factorbird) but I highly recommend owning at least one. To make the transition easier - just get a fret-less like the fretted bass you are familiar with. I know, this is hard for a T-bird owner... a Fender fretted/fret-less P or J will be the most optimal to master in this regard because you will be familiar w/the fb. But regardless - much of the difficulty in transitioning to fretless from a fretted bass is exaggerated. If you are a long time player - I guarantee you will assimilate quickly. And don’t fuss over “sounding like Jaco, or Pino” ... just play it. I don’t incorporate my Factorbird that often into live shows - but I can pick it up and play it anytime w/o the slightest hesitation. Just do it!

Umm, no. Never had the slightest interest in a fretless-I gots enuff problems hitting the right notes with frets.

That's relative... (as you know) I really can't say that my '64 II sounds better now... (than whenever) ...I can only say that it sounds awesome...
