Thx. It' funny how it literally changed what I was hearing with the two trouble basses, yet with the one that was perfect already it didn't drastically change what I normally hear from it. A little different, but nothing like the other two basses. I was a little concerned it would help those two and possibly not sound all that good with others. Not the case so far. I loving that head. I could definitely live with that being my normal amp at this rate.
you know, I tried playing Mr. Slick and get away with just playing MarkBass stuff…as they say in the automotive world, “there’s no replacement for displacement” so I’m back to my Ashdown (ABM 500, 4 x 8”, 1 x15”) as my main goto rig….sounded phenomenal today with black tapes and TB+…no surprise…

And you're a GK fan. Color me intrigued.

A bit of wall art for the GTG, kudos JIO!

I definitely get it. As nice as I thought the little Ashdown RM300 class D sounded, at any volume the A/B class amp even flat just sounds bigger, heavier, whatever term one chooses. Still love that little head and can't imagine getting rid of it. So handy. But my backup Ampeg V-4B Classic (same as the BH not the 70s silver face), will likely be on the block before too long. I've yet to use the '06 with tapes, but that might be what I'm feeling Wed for rehearsal.

pretty much the same basic power amp recipe as Ashdown…..bipolar (instead of mosfet) output transistors and DC coupling makes their transient response unbeatable imho….. lotsa headroom too….
The few times I played GKs they were inherently brighter or more clean sounding with more upper mids than Ahsdowns. Punchy, but but not low punchy like Ashdowns, maybe. It's been a while. Please correct if my perception atypical or not remembered well? I always like the looks of GKs and thought about them several times over the years, but when I played them it didn't click for some reason.

I’d agree with that asssment.

The only GK I ever played through was in a sitting-in situation while the house bassist took a break. Out of courtesy to him, I didn't f---* with his settings, just did what I could with the 67's tone knob. It was "OK" and if I'd had time to make adjustments, I might've liked it. Maybe.

I like GK well enough.
But not enough to play one.

If I wasn't already pretty much awash in bass amps, an Ashdown would be way up on my list. Probably top of the list. I haven't spent enough time with a GK to know whether they would be good, bad, better, indifferent or what to my ears.
