Thunderbird Club

Thanks Dave,
I'll try it this way, hopefully it works! Lots of 1964 Thunderbird II action.

That's a lot of code!

Edit:

That's great! And some nice closeup footage of the 64!

@Engle that sounds fantastic in this jazz context. Were you using any pedals or is the bass just that crunchy? Which tone setting were you using on the bass?

Not a Thunderbird, but this arrived today. Very nice feeling neck and I really like it so far.

Andy, nice score! I haven’t played that Spector yet but did briefly have a semi hollow Spector that in addition to the magnetic pups also had a piezo at the bridge, sounded great but was fretless so I returned it (seller forgot to mention that minor detail).

Veronica - what a wonderful interview and great message - life is all about having fun, making the most with the time we have here, and bringing joy to others. Your band delivers in spades.

I came home from BG rehearsal to learn I bought this '99 Dano 24 fret longhorn. I threw down a low bid thinking, 'whatever'... and they accepted! Love the tone of my Dano-made Coral Deluxe Bass and two Silvertone 1445 Hornets, so I can't imagine regretting it! Never owned one... possibly never played one! It's MIK which is a plus - Korean = quality in my book. Longhorns came in many fun colours, but I dig the classic noir colour-scheme. All I know is they are light-weight, sound and play good, and are about as iconic as all get-out. Only guitar more iconic is a Dano Longhorn 6-string baritone.(tic-toc bass) I'm counting on it being fun to play!

As advertised in VGC - minimal wear, straight neck - checks all the boxes.

Geo - you’re gonna love it! I’ve had my Korean LongHorn for well over a decade (bought it used).

To be honest, I assumed it would fall apart in my hands, it’s pretty much made out of mouse fuzz - Masonite top and back, vinyl tape for side body edging, plastic strap locks, banjo tuners, very thin bent plate bridge with rosewood saddle bar, knobs and pots made by Fischer price toys, surface mounted control plate, and raised round head vs flush screws on the back. Certainly not how I would ever build a bass.

Much to my surprise it’s held up great! Zero issues, stable neck, smooth tuners, super light weight, and an unmistakable and very useable sound. I like the black finish on yours (mine is the white with baby blue burst model). Yours might look even cooler with a white or cream pickguard that has some pinstripes or maybe a black and white floral pattern on it. Regardless, I suspect you’ll find a spot for it in one of your Bond or surf type songs. From a visual standpoint it might just be the perfect bass with a tux in a surf rock setting.

I'll post a clip.
Looking forward to that, I’m getting very interested in jumping on the JC band wagon.

Now wait a minute, you can’t just waltz into this THUNDERBIRD club praise the virtues of the Casady bass then turn around and drop the mic as you walk away! We wanna hear how good it sounds, post that darn video!

Seriously, everybody I know that has the JC bass gushes about how nice it sounds, but I’ve still never actually played or heard one. I’m very JC curious right now.

If it truly sounds as good as everyone claims maybe a JC pup and electronics implant in a Tbird body would be interesting, haven’t seen that done before, and yes, I’d do it if the sound is interesting and useable, I’ve done stranger things to Tbirds.
I can't download and edit, but here's a YouTube link, you can skip around and catch some of the Cassady. Never mind the clams and Sleestack-like stage presence... Also the recording isn't really getting it.

Sounds great! Really like that red finish under the stage lights as well. Doesn’t appear to be too neck heavy. Thx for posting.

 Obviously didn't get to listen to all of it, but would have liked to been there. Always wanted to play White Room in a band. I think that might be one of those songs that if you forget the words you can make them up and it still works!

What are the tonal variations of masonite from various eras?

Inquiring minds want to know. Or maybe that was some other kind of mind. I forget.
My Dano is late 90's Korean. The masonite siding on my house is 1986. I'll go tap on the siding and let you know if there are any tonal differences in the 13 year difference.
