Thunderbird Club

I guess that makes this Dano Wednesday.

Geo - you’re gonna love it! I’ve had my Korean LongHorn for well over a decade (bought it used).

To be honest, I assumed it would fall apart in my hands, it’s pretty much made out of mouse fuzz - Masonite top and back, vinyl tape for side body edging, plastic strap locks, banjo tuners, very thin bent plate bridge with rosewood saddle bar, knobs and pots made by Fischer price toys, surface mounted control plate, and raised round head vs flush screws on the back. Certainly not how I would ever build a bass.

Much to my surprise it’s held up great! Zero issues, stable neck, smooth tuners, super light weight, and an unmistakable and very useable sound. I like the black finish on yours (mine is the white with baby blue burst model). Yours might look even cooler with a white or cream pickguard that has some pinstripes or maybe a black and white floral pattern on it. Regardless, I suspect you’ll find a spot for it in one of your Bond or surf type songs. From a visual standpoint it might just be the perfect bass with a tux in a surf rock setting.

Looking forward to that, I’m getting very interested in jumping on the JC band wagon.
Yes - the stark utilitarian design and use of hardware store materials combined with their use since the '50s by a myriad of killer players is what keeps them iconic to this day. I love the way they look, but what won me over to Dano's is the way they sound. My (Dano made) Coral Deluxe Bass has what is commonly referred to as "that Dano sound". Unmistakeable.

I can't download and edit, but here's a YouTube link, you can skip around and catch some of the Cassady. Never mind the clams and Sleestack-like stage presence... Also the recording isn't really getting it.

So Lori’s channel has a lot of stuff. I’ll listen later. I skipped around and hit on White Room. Really great vocal Roger! You’ve been holding out on us. I like the band.

The Dano/Coral/Silvertone I had looked like this one, only black and really ratty.

Double octave, short scale, absurdly narrow neck. You could flat fly on that neck. Funny thing is that I don't miss it at all.

That channel's actually supposed to just be for the band, I just posted it for the Cassady bass clip. It's cool if course to pop around in it, but I'd probably get a little run at for sharing it if she knew...

 Obviously didn't get to listen to all of it, but would have liked to been there. Always wanted to play White Room in a band. I think that might be one of those songs that if you forget the words you can make them up and it still works!
New lyrics, or sometimes just syllables, get written on the spot regularly! 😂
