Let's just say that at the 2015 prices I'd be looking in the used market for a really nice new-ish TBird .
Yes, exactly, as I said earlier, I reckon new they will be well over $3K street here. For that money you could buy 2 recent TBirds second hand at current prices. I can't see the 2015 model selling well unless they are heavily discounted.
I would be on the lookout for a Bicentennial Bird for that money- although they very rarely come up in Australia.
Incidentally, the only bass I really regret not buying over the years was a Bicentennial. I had the opportunity to buy this one in Australia about 10 years ago.

I didn't as I had just bought a 72/73 Telecaster Bass (and the $ cupboard was bare). That Tele was earlier bought brand new by my friend and was the first Fender I ever held as a teenager. I know it was that bass when it came up through a dealer many years later because of an irregularity in the alignment of the G tuner and the colour. In the intervening time, I believe it was owned by the guy from the Church at one point and featured on the clip of Under The Milky Way. I guess, I had to have the Tele and still have it. But, boy, I wish I could have had them both!
Here is the Tele.
