I have started “The Voice Within” (John Farnham autobiography).
P64 he finds a singing school in the Melbourne phone directory and goes there. Lucky for him it was the same school that Helen Reddy, Peter Allan & Olivia Newton-John had lessons.
I think that’s a pretty good strike rate!

Yeah, cool band. A bunch of years ago I was riding my bike through Prospect Park in Brooklyn, and Spoon was playing at the bandshell there. I stopped and listened for the rest of their set. They did a great cover of Rocks Off from the Stones.

I listened to them a lot through the third album, Girls Can Tell. Then for no particular reason didn’t much more until Transference. Then kinda not again for a long time except sporadically. I need to go down a rabbit hole and get reacquainted. Some excellent stuff there over almost what, thirty years now?

Probucker Pickups on ebay from Asia - Legit?

Looks like there's a LOT of ProBucker pickup sets on ebay from Asian countries. Does anyone know if these are legit? Is someone parting out new Epi LPs over there? I'd like to get a set of ProBuckers for my new-to-me LP Studio Deluxe. Couple examples: Alnico Classic Neck/Probucker bridge...

You’ve definitely heard the music. Just don’t recognize the name. You’ll no doubt come across a few songs where you say “ah, so that’s the band that does that song.” They got a fair amount of play around the time REM was starting to slip away from mega stardom.

Well that's not too long of a drive from your mountain place, but too from from Hollister . It would be a fun destination!

I don't like those much, either. There's clearly some chemical imbalance somewhere.

I'm somewhat thinking about a green Epi '64. Somewhat. It would have to compete with the Flamingo and '01 for playing time or get neglected like the '15 has been lately. So, the somewhat turns into never mind.

I would gladly host. The issue I’m up against is I’m trying to sell a house in the spring. I’d hate to have everyone plan on being here and then pull the rug out at the last minute. If the GTG is held down here somewhere I’d be happy to help with the logistics and setting up day trips and shop tours.

I should have a very good feel for my home sale situation by the end of February. If for some reason I’m still in my current house this summer I’ll gladly open my doors for a GTG. The house has three spare bedrooms and a comfy sleeping couch in the front room. So as many as three couples and a single can bunk here. A three car garage for gear and jamming and Lots of hotels just minutes away as well. Just too early to commit right now.

That's like the crack in my burst I got for $399. Mine's not that large. The string tension holds mine just fine. I could get it to flex just a bit with no strings, but it was so little I don't think I got much clue in at all when I tried. I smoothed out the slight feeling from the cracks on either side (one was larger than the other) and never think about it until I see a pic with the same issue. If those things didn't have headstocks half the size of the body they would likely not be smacking into so many things. Any bigger and they would look silly IMO. They did a great job with those, but the huge headstock is a head-scratcher.

Not bad with blueberry or strawberry syrup either. Belgian waffles are awfully good as well.

Just for the record, I was doing some general maintenance on a number of my birds today (oiling fretboards, wiping down hardware, cleaning bodies, tuning and adjusting setups as needed) and ended up playing eleven birds back to back with a Kenny Wayne Shepherd Blue on Black recording. Some interesting observations - namely that price has a lot less to do with how nice a bass sounds than most people would think, string selections can make or break a great bass, and feel is every bit as important as sound.

First place
Lull Petersson bass is an absolute monster - low mids to die for, super light weight, fast neck. Definitely in the top tier I played today.
North ThunderCaster - my god, this thing will tear buildings down. Right there with the Lull on sound, body is heavy though.
Purple Sparkle ‘64 Eppi - right out of the box this thing has a massive bang for the buck, sounds every bit as good as the Lull as well.
Capped Goth - just as good as the three above but with a $300 all in price

Second place
North ‘66 Tribute NR - equipped with first run 760ProBuckers, sounds great but not the girth or depth of the ‘64 Eppi
Eppi VP first run - sweet but not as sweet as the Purple sparkle in sound
Gibson 21 NR Reissue - a wonderful player, love the neck profile on this thing, creamy lows, solid all around bass

Third place (and still damn good basses)
FrankenGoth - the Aggie preamp and BART humbuckers really shine, lots of tonal options
Pink Sparkle Acasia - similar to the bass above, the East preamp and Nordstrand combo is a tone monster, but a bit more sterile
White BaCH - dual ChinaBuckers sound great, punch and grind, heavy bass, nice neck
Blue BaCH - dual Artec pickups sound nearly as good, lighter weight bass, super thin fast neck
