Thanks. Yes, that's kind of how I'm leaning right now. Given the neck repair seems stable, smoothing that out and refinishing it myself would be well below $500. Heck, just a coat of paint would make a world of difference. There is some but limited value to be gained by fixing it up, but not at that price. Anything I would do would increase the value as well, just not as much. But I just want it to look good, play good and have no intention of selling it regardless of what value may be gained.If I were in your situation, this is the route I would choose. While a really cool bass, it is not worth sinking that kind of money into. I would say "take your time and try to enjoy the process." It is always fun to have something to work at. Also when its done, it will be "your" bass since you spent the time on it.
