Thunderbird Club

Thunderbird Last Friday... Here's an example of the need for a proper Doom-able bass rig.
But check out the guitar solo, this dude can play. Three of us are ex-Plan 9 folk, so we're pretty acclimated as an ensemble.
But the bass is largely buried. 🤨

This one's called "Burning Couch", vid by The Earthmen bandmate Lori... Fun to have friends! 😁

Rocking!!!!

Love seeing you and the band on the bill.
You all will rock that place.
Will you be spending the night there?

They comped us four rooms, however, Frank and I won't be staying overnight, we'll return to Des Moines after the show as I have to work the next day - We're understaffed at the moment so I have to be there.

Can someone confirm for me that the Epiphone TBirds have the exact same design shape as the Gibson (c. 2015) models???

They do not have the same shape.

Here's a mopey one! "Grudge"... Then we end the set with an Iggy and the Stooges number. 😃

As mentioned, bass is anemic. It was difficult to hear myself most of the time. Amazing how your confidence can take a bullet when your sound is compromised. That should never be part of a performance. Ehhh... Can't wait to make it right.

I would happily come see y'all play if you were anywhere nearby. RI is a bit far even for a Texan to drive for a single gig. I just need to come up with a good excuse...

Well, looks like I’ll keep it! The temporarily donated D string from my Fender P-Bass plays in the TBird without any of that weird freaky-@ss resonating sound!!! So today the EBCFs will arrive at a nearby Amazon locker, and I’ll go fetch them to restring this lovely instrument. I’m so happy I can keep it!

And I’m so glad my P-Bass was willing to step up and donate a string to help the family’s newest member!

Can’t wait to get it restrung and see what those EBCFs feel and sound like.
W00T! Congrats.

Chris shipped it with a fresh set of Lo Riders. Time will tell. But the Bicentennial sounds fabulous through the SVT with them. I’ve been cranking it for a few hours now. Stopped to make dinner. I may not go to bed tonight. No one around to tell me to stop. I’m in heaven.
I like sidewinders. They are not 60s magic, but way better than the TB+ if wanting vintage Thunderbird sound with out question. In fact, I would say they sound better than the current Gibson Reissues. Have more bite to them, just not as much as the 60s. I love the sound of my '76 and never had the struggle once to find a string to make it sound good. I've had TIs, Fender flats, GHS, and Roto 66s (currently). Sounds great and love to hear it every time I play it. You Sir, have a great sounding Thunderbird.

So, I'm going to fabricate a modification element for the Hercules Mini guitar stand- which right now won't safely support a TBird.

I'm going to laminate 1/2" Baltic Birch plywood to create a holder that slips into the two "arms" of the Hercules Mini. Some 1/4" padding (shown in red) on the plywood will be the bearing surface for the TB. The large notch in the bottom is to accommodate straps/pegs- I'll have to think about the cord- this is just my first take on it.

I'll also probably want to change the front layer to capture more of the asymmetrical design of the TB- while leaving space for a "Thurderbird Club" logo.

If I work this out, would anyone be interested in having one???

It sounds amazing. I don’t have a true vintage Thunderbird to A/B it with. That'll have to wait until my next visit to San Ramon or the GTG. But with the Lo Riders Chris sent on it and through the SVT, it is a monster. Especially cranked. I got a bit worried last night while playing that I would wake up the semi hibernating bears. Or worse, set off the San Andreas fault. I’m looking forward to running it through my Mesa amps.

It's a 2 point replacement and doesn't really fit.
I'm not sure if it's the same guy, but somebody asked a few years ago and I remember taking the Hipshot 2 point off my Mann Armstrong to test fit it on my VP. The string slots don't line up.
The Hipshot specs for that bridge sure seem to match up with what I see on my VP. We'll know soon enough!

This Queen needs to retire - Or at least not work so much, happily not too far off.
Your Thunderbirds, particularly the blue BaCH and the Lull, cause me to have enormous envy. And knowing you will beat me out the door from the clampdown makes it even more so. But I hope to be among those who get to celebrate it when you head down later this year. A couple Empress martinis on me.
