Thunderbird Club

I used the Ampeg SGT-DI for the first time at rehearsal and had some funky sounds (wah wah wah on the A and E stings). The setup was pedals about 12' from the digital mixer. I used wireless from my pedal to the mixer and a cable from bass to pedals. OK, switched and ran the cable from the pedals to the mixer and wireless from bass to pedals (<4'). Still that weird wah wah. Disconnected the wireless and used all cables, issue went away.

Anyone using wireless ever get anything like this? I have used the wireless transmitter/receiver for a couple years and never had any issues. Granted, this is a new rehearsal space and everything is digital including IEM. RF issues? The good news is the Ampeg delivers the B-15 sound I was looking for and can add as much grit as you want.
Does it do it on every channel of the wireless system you’re using? IIRC, you’re using the dongle type system? 2.4, 5.8, or UHF?

I haven't looked if other channels are available. It's an inexpensive dongle type that came pre-paired. I'll have to look at the instructions for changing channels. I think they allow multiple pairs. It is 2.4GHz.

If pairing on different channels doesn’t work, try a 5.8 system. Good to have a backup handy anyway.

One of my absolute dreams is to be able to get into a muscle car.
Not easy in France...

I really like it too, I think she has a crazy tone, and the Tbird in cream finish !!!! She also has a very nice collection of Tbirds

I also really liked Jared Followill of Kings of Leon, back when he still played Thunderbird (now he'd given it up for a Jazz Bass 😕).

Today is another day for me, I just unpacked this :

I sold the Orange Terror Bass because I didn't connect with the Tbirds sound; it really lacked clarity as if there were a persistent veil... and she was too powerful for my home( Into 4 ohms, it must be terrorfull.)
That's why I bought this modest Venture V3, It already pairs much better with my SVT410HE than the Orange.
I listen to Nikki all the tome. And try to see them frequently.

Yes, I was going to ask about that. I don't think I've seen one. Might have in a documentary at some point.
If I ever make it that way, that--and your place are on the must see list!
I bet the museum will be a fun place on June 21st!

All this car talk has me thinking about applying some Bore Oil to to my fretboard... 🤓
Q-tip is the way you guys do that? A little dab on/wait/wipe off action? I can't imagine it's a very particular process.
I do a drop per fret, then gently rub it in / clean off excess.

I have never used that (on fret boards anyway). Any oil I use I wipe on lightly till it looks conditioned. When I first get something that is really dry, I will put it on more heavily but still never really leave much on it very long. I put some on, let soak in, and add more if needed. Just what I tend to do. I've even used baby oil a few times with just fine results and no problems. And it's cheap--and doesn't stink.
Bore oil is all I’ve used since … 1977?

Yeah ! Original Thunderbird tone powered !

KOL's Letterman live videos live where you can hear the TBird very well :

Love that bass line on Family Tree! Great forward in the mix example of just how versatile a Tbird can be, no mud, all melody, makes the guitar riffs forgettable.

Wait, sorry club members! I forgot the golden rule…
“Thou shalt trash Tbirds at every opportunity, lest they become more popular and less affordable” (1st Queens, verses 1 and 2)

So, what I really meant to say about the Kings of Leon recording was - listen to that horrible Tbird, mud and thud all the way, watch the bass player fight to keep the headstock from hitting the floor. And speaking of headstocks, I heard that just after the recording the birds headstock broke off. If you look closely you’ll see the finish flaws around the control knobs, and I bet the fool paid twice the price for that POS vs a P bass. I’m sure he’s had to pick his bridge saddles up off the floor every time he restrings the stupid bass. Heaven help him if he ever needs tech support from Gibson, their customer service sucks even more than their basses. And don’t even get me started on their last CEO, a Royal jerk.:laugh:

So far, no issues with wireless. I run wireless from the bass to pedalboard, then cable to amp. None of my amps has an effects loop, so it's just a linear thing. The channel I use is called 11. Because eleven.

No way an AMX should ever be automatic. I don't think any muscle car should be automatic. Two hands and two feet is fun. One hand and one foot is only half the fun.
