When I got my license in ‘74, the first thing I did was go to Pacific Stereo (now long gone) and get a Pioneer cassette player and speakers. It sounded great in that little Volvo. At one time I had about 250 cassettes copied from of my vinyl that I recorded through a Kenwood cassette deck.

We cruised Ocean Avenue in Lompoc (it was a thing back in the day) on Friday Nights blasting Bowie, Sabbath, Zeppelin, ZZ Top, Alice Cooper, you get the idea. The cops hated us. Good Times!

No. Poor humor again. I hated them then. Cassettes were a gift from above.

Same here, some times slightly different music. Pioneer Super Tuner was a common thing in my cars. Amp, often an EQ, 4 Jensen co or tri-axial speakers (two in the back deck and 2 in the ft door). Nothing like your music getting to your destination before you did.

You’re a bit younger than me. Yeah, I would have thought when you started driving it would have been when cassettes were king. 4/8 tracks were only a thing for about 10 years. Cassettes hung around from about ‘70 to ‘85 when CDs came along. Although my 2000 Volvo S80 had a cassette and cd player. CDs hung around from ‘85 to about a ‘15 to ‘20 when manufacturers stopped installing cd players in cars. My ‘24 Crosstrek doesn’t have a cd player. I miss it a bit. But there is a great alt radio station here and streaming. I found don’t use Sirius XM enough so I canceled it.

Putting the Gibson vintage re-issue set that came from a 2021 NR, which has a “Rhythm” and a “Lead” pickup gives this a different sound than my 1995 Gibson ‘bird that has a pair of the Gibson vintage re-issue “Lead” pickup in both positions.

I really had planned to keep a 3-point on it, and the one on it now is an AllParts, and it a bit of a tight fit in the original mounting anchors, to the point it looks a little like the posts are not going in the body straight, so I think I’ll be going with the Babicz after all.

My wife had a cassette deck until 2014 when we replaced her previous car. Difficult to get by then. My 2023 Mazda 3 doesn't have a CD player and I'm still bummed.

Hmmmm, seems like the cool kids with 2014 Heritage Cherry T-Birds @Thumper are going with black pick-guards…..

If I bought as opposed to leased my Crosstrek, I would add the $450 disc player for it that goes in the center console instead of the dash. I’m sure it would sound great. The stock audio system in it sounds surprisingly good.

I’m not much of a fan of white pickguards in general, except when on a white bass.

However, I have a few dark green basses and I’m liking “cream” and parchment pickguards on those:

And when my Greco comes back from Wilkins, it will be a super dark green and the original pickguard which has yellowed to a nice, cream tint over the years will probably look great on it.

I'm a fan of black PG on many basses, but white on white is beautiful, and a white PG is perfect on the purple sparkle. White PGs generally look at least OK with nickel or chrome hardware and with light color basses. Black PGs tend to go great with black hardware. Either works for me on tobacco burst, tending toward chossing based on the hardware color per above.

Ultimately, if it's a Thunderbird, I'm happy enough. 8^)

Still need to get the 4 band SushiBox dialed in. So far reduced the bass and low-mid a little, and added a little hi- mid and treble.

Very nice. Indeed it does. That's what caught my eye.

I have a number of pocket watches and a few old wrist watches, a few with very distinctive pre and slightly post WWII designs. I have several old Hamilton RR approved pocket watches. My Dad used to repair antique clocks and we both liked watches. I love looking at the mechanical detail of watches, then add the often beautiful aesthetic design and I can stare at one for a good while.

No 8 tracks in any of my cars. But had a few before driving for home listening.

I used to never not listen to music in a car. But now I find I often like the sound of nothing going on.
