While I know quite a bit about Thunderbirds (from this thread and my own experience), others here a far more knowledgeable than I. I suspect someone will have some answers, but if that is a 1 of only 2 in black, of a run of only 20, I'd guess someone might be willing to pay a lot for it. Trick will be finding that "someone". If it's not from the '70's, then I'm thinking it's from the mid-2000's or later because, I think, Gibson re-started making Thunderbirds in the late 80's right up until recently. They had ebony fretboards until the mid 2000's, and II's, as far as I know, were not made, or available at all from Gibson regular production in that era.

I hadn't heard of a run done that recently for Sam Ash, it does look completely legit, the pickup raises some questions because it's a 3 screw cover which would date it to '76-'79 production. Gibson did do a small group in '86 as well, this example is from that group.

Thanks for the complimentary words. The crowd was surprisingly small for the venue, but a fun night. The SIT Powersteels have just started to mellow, and are showing high mid dominance over pingy highs.

I'm going to attend the next GTG.
Next couple days will upgrade Ebony VP's pickups with the 916 pickups. "Before"samples recorded yesterday morning. Pictoral will follow along with "After" audio samples. Will create a new thread for that endeavor.
Purple bird stayed home due to unfinished surgery, installing Gotoh GB 640 vintage nickel finish tuners, tungsten weights for the cavity about 6-8 oz . Have heavy chrome plated solid brass knobs to replace the stock ones. All 3 pots are B500k, odd!
Wiring is tidy: but since I have to get out the iron, I'm going to upgrade the whole harness. 2x B500k 1x 250k tone with a Switchcraft barrel jack and .1 cap.
Installed Loxx strap locks (interesting, not sure they are going to move me away from my trusty Dunlops)

What, exactly are the pots you prefer? I recall they were 500k linear for volume, 250k audio for tone? But which "brand"
…and .1 cap seems as though it might darken everything up a bit much?
