If you want to be more aggressive but not resort to wet sanding, I use this three step polish. Use some elbow grease or a small orbital polisher.

Because of that post (and all the positive comments about Ashdown, past and present), I started looking at the Evo IV 600w. Came within $75 dollars of buying one. Then I kept “researching”, and realized the Geezer H.O.D. is very similar, without the on board compressor, which I wouldn’t use, and with the output meter, which I like. Also made in UK.

My biggest question will be whether the compact and sealed cabinets will give me what I want. They are lightweight, just slightly larger than my Orange OBC112’s, but the Orange cabs are ported, and can handle 400w each. The Ashdowns are only 300w each and with the head being 600w, I hope they will handle the head. Ashdown support said the rig would be good for small to medium size venues.

I’ll be spending time with this rig tomorrow and Saturday and using live Saturday night. If I’m not happy with the cabs, they will go back. If so, then I’ll try the head with the two Orange 112s which, because of porting and power handling, may be a better match.

Very curious to hear about what you think of that amp.

There are 10’s of thousands of those Thunderbirds out there. Making a drop in replacement makes total sense.

is that the same model bass as the one you just posted? Was asking about the pickups because from what I read here TB+ don't seem very popular and (wrongly) assumed folks would choose something else (SD, Lollar etc.) before TB+ in that particular form factor...

No. What I took into the MCF Thunderbird Shelter is an Epi Tbird Custom Pro, the through neck Epi version of the Gibson through neck reverse. It acutely came with the USA Tbird+ pickups. The Standard Epi IV bolt-on like you posted, as well as the Goth, and some of the old Epi Custom Shops are what those Eric Pickups are designed for.

No one other than that Chinese company makes drop in replacements in that cover configuration.

Some shim modding is required to put Lollars , SDs, etc., in the bolt-on Epis. No big deal, but some extra work. Here’s an old Lollar vid installing his pickups in a bolt-on Epi:

Almost never get FOH, many of the places around here that will have us only use PA’s as vox support. And yes, 600 watts is overkill, but I like headroom. Plus, if running only one cab it’s 300w. Also, since I rarely get a monitor mix I need to hear myself when next to a Marshall (in RSR) and over drummers that, in both cases, could use better control of their use of cymbals.

That 51 (hangared in Hol) belongs to one of the remaining RR Merlin mechanics who happens to live in Hol....there's always ( especially in summer)a few 51s flying around and although the airport has a lot of traffic (Cal Fire base) one CANNOT mistake the sound of those 12s ....the airport has historic barracks left untouched as it served as a WWII B-17 pilot training facility due to its long runway......

Yeah, that's a bit over what we do! I'm always a bit surprised at how little volume is actually needed for what we do (not that we're a quiet band) , I'd love to
crank my Ashdown up to half.

No. My white bird is a Classic Pro with original pickups. The mods are all hardware.
