Thunderbird Club

Thanks. I'll try to remember to take a pic of my 500. Pretty different from you. You have the shape deployed--I disengage. Chuck uses it like you do. I may have to try it, but it sounds counter intuitive to suck the mids out and boost the bass and highs, then have to cut bass and boost mids back. I can't wrap my head around that, but need to try it. But my Ampeg cabs are packed full of big lows so that may not work of be needed for me. I would love to hear your tone and your cab.

Have a great show!

I'll try to have Frank get a song or two on video, the venue is pretty nice.

Kind of the opposite of Ampegs where I don't drive the pre but the power tubes (which I hardly get a chance to do). It's power tube breakup and compression I really like. Fizz and buzz are not for me.
Hence me liking the SVT through a single 4Ohm 15. Can “Almost” get power tubes working. Should get a V4.

It's been a bit quite on the Thunderbird front around here, not much available locally so my eyes landed on a '66 Firebird at The House of Guitars. It's been on layaway for a number of months and I was finally able to bring it home today. It's a great addition to the collection and will look great with my birds.😁😎
You know, it’s got an extra two strings.

The newer V-4Bs sounds great. I have one at home. They sounds glorious when the power tube are pushed and compressed. Problem is, even though 100w, it's still crazy loud. But when no one is at home but me..... ;)

So how long/bad was it? Most of the dust storms in El Paso when I was a kid only lasted a few (intense) minutes. The worst was hours long. We ended up with dust on everything in the house with up to 1/4" on the side the wind was hitting. And I had a bad case of tonsillitis. The wind piled tumbleweeds and sand up against the back wall (nothing but desert past that wall), and it would pick up small, flat stones and roll them across the desert. They'd go up the ramp, over the wall, and hit the house. We had the only house on our block that didn't have a window broken. It really sucked for those folk.

I never had to drive in a dust storm. I can see where that would be nerve-wracking if it caught you off guard. I wish I'd thought to ask Dad if his little Renault with the rusted out floor boards got lots of sand in it after those storms.

For some reason I was thinking you weren't in it's path. Glad everything is OK.
It lasted at least 45 minutes, maybe an hour and we were in the thick of it. Luckily, neither of us were driving when it hit. I've driven in dust storms of various severity many times and it can be nerve wracking. This was not nearly as severe as the haboob we had several years ago. That was a site to behold and it left piles of thick dust everywhere!

Yes, I recently acquired one and a 2nd SVT212AV, and am really happy with it. It stays at my rehearsal space for RSR. It’s perfect for the room and volume we play.

hmm you are right: a PF 50t perhaps

I have 2 of these, one stays at BL rehearsal space, paired with a PF115LF and is used when recording. The other one I have at home for garage practice. Usually plugged into a PF210 or PF115. I really like these little amps.

Ben playing some guitar lately and am getting

I had a couple dozen dust pileup cases in the valley over the years. Most caused by farmers plowing in the wind. It got better when the air resources board finally started cracking down. But a lot of people suffered injuries, and a few died. Mostly because some idiots just drove too fast. Like fog accidents. Those involving big rigs were the worst. Very sad. And often preventable with just a little common sense.

Where can I find a gigbag that fits a Gibson Thunderbird? Love the included hard shell case from Gibson....but it's damn bulky. The Thunderbird is way too long for a standard bass gigbag and MF and SW don't seem to stock any gigbags that fit 50+ inch basses.
If you’re talking about a Gibson standard reverse, the Gator Thunderbird case is lighter and a good option. The Epiphone Thunderbird case is adequate, but the cover is soft and tears easily.

Sometimes you can get a factory second from the Gator seconds website for around $100.

I don’t care for gigbags, YMMV. Some here have found some that will work and can give you suggestions.

Thanks for reply. That link is a hardshell case... was looking for a gigbag.

It's a Rex Brown signature Thunderbird. Not a reverse.
