Thunderbird Club

Each gain stage has a purpose determined by the designer. The design depends on a lot of things such as: whether they want things clean, mildly overdriven, or distorted; what range of input they expect; what they want the stage eq to look like. For starters.
Because I want 'clean', neither GAIN nor MASTER are ever above 'noon'. Usually 10 or less.
 
I tried one that I’m getting a while ago in a music shop.
I was floored by its heft and it’s ability to slam.
Just couldn’t afford it.
It weighs a lot by today’s modern standards.
But not like an SVT.
It’s on the way.
And the seller showed me how it’s packed.
Should be ok.

May need the right sealed 810 to pair up with it 😂

I really want to try an Ashdown but I need to sell some stuff first. I have several heads now that don't get enough use. I like this one a lot and has a lot of tube goodness and grit. The pic isn't my rack but the only difference in this setup and mine is my power conditioner. I need to experiment with it to see if its really a keeper.

Well, I’ve been holding off on this,
But I’m sad to say that the ABM 600 I got had to be returned.
Long explanation and I won’t get into it.
But I got a full refund.

Next on the way is this :woot:
Fender TB1200.
Kind of a dream amp.
And the price was more then right.

Personally, I’d go down the Berg route first - NV610 is a monster, as is the 412 or 215. :)
Or for a real back breaking orgasmic inducing dream stack - two Berg HT322’s stacked with the top one inverted. I’d pay money to hear that rig! Of course I’d probably have to pay more money afterwards to regain my hearing. Those super efficient 322’s have off the chart SPL specs (sensitivity rating of about 103db with something over 130 max db IIRC).
No need to pay money to hear that dream rig if he got it. You could hear at you house from New York or Germany. 1200 watts. Man.
 
So Jeff got me curious about his incoming amp. I understand that the Fender power section uses BJT transistors. I was curious to know the the difference between those and the MOSFETS used in the Mesa Carbine.

They are. AFAIK, BJTs are more commonly used in lower powered amps. MOSFETs are used in higher powered amps. They pretty much rule the Class D world.
Interesting this power section is BJTs.
