Thunderbird Club

LOL - I always shudder when I get this note from Guitar Center after ordering an item for delivery. In this case it’s a vintage MusicMsn 115 bass cabinet to pair with the vintage MusicMan HD150 bass amp I already have.
Note it says the Bass Cabinet “may arrive in multiple shipments” - haha. Let’s hope not, but if they use FedEx I suppose anything is possible.

Funny, but scary they would even say that.
UPS did a real number on the ABM 600.

I mean it really must have taken some fall, I deleted the pics I had of the physical external damage.
Wasn’t pretty.

I had that paired with a MM Sixty-five. Marshall got to play through that.

Doesn’t need to be a 410. This comes in an 8ohm:

It IS expensive, but if I had the excess $$, having an 8 ohm version would be nice. The 4 ohm means it is only LOUD.

On another note, the 600w HOD may be a little exaggerated, since it really is just a EVO IV 500w inside:

And the spot where the compressor knob is, is bypassed(?):View attachment 7310557

and the compressor select switch is permanently disengaged (there is no button on the front side):

but, I have the 4 button footswitch and one button is for the compressor, and it does light when I push it, I’m just not sure if I hear a difference.

The only other difference is that the HOD has an output meter on the front and the DI XLR is moved to the back.
don't let the artwork on the PCB fool you, a different component BOM (and larger power supply) can easily yield an extra 50 or 100 Watts using the same fab....why relabel if they have a bunch in stock?..... the ins and outs of electronic manufacturing....

A couple of cool non-bird birds in the classifieds:
I do like the finish on the top one. San Diego. Huh. Need to look into them if they do refining. He doesn’t specify which of the several different EMG Thunderbird pickup is in there.

The bottom one looks like something North Guitars would build.

The few things I bought used from them I had shipped to store. Safer that way.

It's a pleasant form of insanity.

Turned out very nice Ray!
Thank you!

Wife came out this morning, had NO idea I was working on this, said: OH WOW!! That looks great, picked it up to get a closer look, and said: how much did THIS cost you?.
Hun, I fabricated it. About 30.00 in materials, but I have enough to make more out of the leftovers.
She then said: you really need to get this business going! It looks totally professional.

(Awww shucks, thanks hon!!!!)

It is a repeatable process, pain staking and very manual, all hand tools except the scroll saw. I even scraped the edge to a 45 degree angle with a razor, then hand sanded and polished them. In person it’s very 3D.
Next time I’ll use 1/8” polycarbonate so the edge effect will be more dramatic.

The results are very good. I’m super pleased.

On another note : I’m searching for the right neck for project Brunswick (the broken neck 64 husk that @Ringhammer will be sending my way) I have a rosewood paddle head Jazz width neck on hand , but I’m thinking a Wenge neck might be the treat.

Additionally, the redwood X-705 epoxy will be cured enough to sand back and final coat with Satin Lacquer.

A purple, flame maple top telecaster guitar body is almost ready to clear coat. It will be mated with a guitar scale neck (25.5”) an overwound Lollar 50’s P pickup in the neck, and an Artec blade humbucker in the bridge position, modified Telecaster bridge plate.
Controls 3 knob VVT in series.
I plan on fabricating a frosted / translucent red standard telecaster pick guard.

A turquoise HUGE flake highly modified Gretsch G2220 (SS) is nearing completion also. Will have sealed chrome covered seriously overwound (14k) blade pole humbuckers, with 6 way freeway switch VT.

Next in the pipeline is going to be either an Explorer or Tbird shape body from Honduran Mahogany to mate with a headless, aluminum, 30.5” scale neck from a Hondo Alien. That will house a pair of the 760 ProBuckers I took out of my Tbirds.

Wife keeps saying, so are you going to sell THIS one?

The prototype/ experiment / hack job excuse is starting to NOT work :)

didn't care much for those, if I want "bright" I go for steel rounds, if I want flats, LB DTB or tapes....
