Thunderbird Club

Hey all, what straplocks are you guys using for your Tbirds? I’m usually a Dunlop guy and have 3 straps already fitted with Dunlop locks, unfortunately I don’t have any extra buttons lying around, I do happen to have a set a Schallers along with the buttons though.

You can buy just the “buttons” for the bass without buying the whole kit.

Yes, but the only brand I recall him using was Dean Markley. I understand why, they are nice, even now that they outsource them. Maybe Miles can correct or fill in.
Sorry. The first album in particular could have been flats by the sound, but in the few photos where you can really see the strings, they seem to be rounds. I haven’t seen any mention of his strings in eons. I wish all the old Guitar Player and Bass Player interviews were online.

I have a strap per bass that stays on the bass. I use Strap Blocks (rubber washers) to keep them on.

I use Schaller, only because I have several basses that had the pins installed when I got the basses. I like supporting Dunlop though whenever I can because it’s a great California company.

I typically use Loxx for bass guitars that need strap locks. Some do, some don't.

nickels? are they not manufactured (or manufactured here) anymore? what's their special attribute?.....saw them in ads forever, never occurred to try....
I don't know if he used SS or NPS. I don't think anyone knows for sure who makes them now. I used them decades ago. Their Blue Steels are well balanced tone wise and are very punchy--maybe more so that Rotos. They sound good even after a lot of playing on them. Not as bright but that's not my thing anyway. The '21 NR has those on it. I have some of the BS NPS but have not put them on anything yet. That was what I used years ago on Pbasses mostly.

Schallers for decades. Never had a problem.
