Ron Blair's first band as a bass player (The Real Good F*ck). He replaced me after I got thrown out because of constantly arguing with my brother Tommy (stage left playing Marshall Plexi and Major stacks). Ron's playing four Acoustic 360s and a Dan Armstrong. Looks like another 100 degree Florida day.

That drummer, Michael Hitchcock, playing a 'shotgun' bass drum is taking me to the doctor tomorrow for my follow up.

Delicate interpersonal situations like this, demand that you leave no stone unturned. You must consider all possibilities as to why this is going on. For instance... you may need to carefully consider the possibility that he's a narcissistic dick... in which case, I can't help you.

I chalk it up to him being a control freak, are they the same?. Sad thing is that the scene in my town is almost non existent so when you catch on to something you gotta stick with it or your back to zero and playing the waiting game. At times I get frustrated and he is a super chill dude otherwise but I havent felt the frustration reach the point where I think its time to bail.

Loudest unsigned band you never heard of. Venue was the Univ of Fla Architecture Building Plaza, 1970. One of the singers passed his rich girlfriend off to Ron after she had bought him a PA. Ron married her and she bought the Acoustics as well as a van...it was the 60s!

Sounds nice. Would that be the area with the most comfortable year round climate in the US (excl Hawaii) ?

I lived in Vegas for 7 years and loved the climate. Today in the sludge put that is NJ, it was 90 degrees, muggy and then, a torrential rain storm. Give me the 110 degree dry heat any day.

So, got this big audition tomorrow and going to bring the Epiphone bird. I just had my Gibson tuned to drop D standard and not messing with it. These guys tune to Db, Ab, Db,Gb, and I did have to do adjusting to the Epiphone, so not touching the Gibson until I get the Gig. I also set up the fender and will bring it as a backup. I had to raise strings and adjust intonation, but for some reason, it just seems easier to do on a fender than others. I am not even going to think about messing with the Rick, it's standard tuned and the dual truss rod adjusting is not something I'm comfortable with.

Don't know why, but I'm antsy about this audition, something never the norm.

First... as someone else here said recently, I love seeing new life breathed into an old piece like that!

Second... I certainly don't mean to offend anyone... but I don't have a lot of respect for "relic-ed" or "battle-worn" versions of new instruments. Just look at all the history in that beast of yours! You can't simulate mojo... you gotta earn that s#!t!

My long winded, "junior psychologistic" (yes..., I get to make up words. I have a license) response, in full or in part, holds the key to what's going on with your band. Until this particular leg of the conversation, I've never seen you say anything but positive stuff about your band. It sounds like you're happy with the music you make together. It also sounds like you go out of your way to pull him into the fold. We've all heard that honesty is the best policy... and it truly is. The problem is... it seldom brings the desired response (AKA - people generally don't like it when your honest with them unless it shows them in a good light). Just doing the right thing & being honest with someone does not guarantee that you'll get the result you desire. If you're honest with someone, and they respond in an unfavorable or irrational manor... you are better off without them, whether you like that result or not. Only YOU can decide when it's time to risk it. The impression I get, as a guy sitting at his computer in Michigan, communicating electronically with a guy in Winnipeg, is that you'll find a way to deal with it & carry on, and that hopefully he'll get ahold of himself eventually... but remember... you only get to go around once. I spent a lot of years waiting for other people to make things happen. Then I spent a long time blaming those people for those things not happening. Then, one day it hit me. I had spent a lot of time waiting... but no time doing! I had the power to alter the course of my life and point it in any direction I wanted to, but I CHOSE to sit back, shove my thumb in my a$$, and wait for people to put my life where I wanted it to be. This was on ME, and I had no-one with whom to argue that fact. At that point, I had a wife, kids, a job... my anchor was down, and wrapped around a tree. Can't turn back the clock, man. You pickin' up what I'm layin' down bro?

Something good is on your horizon man. I can feel it... and you can too! Do your homework, take a breath, and go do what you love to do. Whatever is gonna happen, is what's supposed to happen.

I love the way you brought 'er back to life. You coulda done a total refinish to make it all pretty for the cameras... but you chose to let 'er true colors show. Well done, Sir... well done!

I have an Epi EB3L (actually, my girlfriend does....really need to get that back one of these days).

The Ovations are pretty amazing. The EQ version is pretty cool to play around with, but the version with the knobs has two input jacks, Rick style. Splitting one pickup to one amp and the other to another is a hell of a lot of fun. All in all, if you get a chance to play one, you'll probably enjoy it, simply because of the diversity of tones. Not to mention how unusual the look and feel.[/QUOTE

Ever since you (at least I think it was you) posted about these some months ago, I've been intrigued. I was also intrigued by all the love on TB for Peavy t-40 s. I searched a couple of those out, found a very nice example and drove two hours to check it out. I liked the tone. It was in great shape. The price was fair, $500 withcase. But the thing was darn near 12 lbs. I knew I would never play it because it was just too heavy. At my age and size anything above 9 1/2 lbs just feels too heavy. And the sweet spot for me seems to be around 8 1/2 lbs. So what do the Ovations typically weigh?

To me a refinished instrument is a HUGE turnoff. If I a bass that I like but has been refinished I won't even consider it

That was me. I thought they were absurd until I picked one up. Then I figured you can't see it when you play it and it felt right in my hands. My Road Worn P is now pounded for real. Something about looking beat up to start with meant that it got beat around by me and everyone else without a second thought. The finish on those must be really thin, because I went right through it in a number of places. It sounds just like a P should to me. Sure, you can get into nuance, but that's not what a P is all about anyway. I think it's the perfect 7ender. It better be, because its the only FSO I own in the bass range. The Zombiecaster is the only FSO, and it's not quite an FSO even though it's a Squier, in the guitar range. I like 'em both very much.

The '50s Classic' P is exactly the same except for the finish.

Think that's a good way to look at it. I'm 50 and should remember that all you can do is try and wait and see.

Maybe my biggest fear is that these guys have toured the country before and if I get this gig, I might have to choose between my career and my dream. My wife will support me no matter what. It would be tough telling my kid I would be away for weeks on end.

Screw it! You guys wanna all meet in Santa Ana? I hear the state of California has a law in place stating that it is unlawful for temperatures to exceed 85 degrees, and that there must be a consistent breeze described only as "cool". I could probably hang with that...

It was 106 in Sacramento today. And it rained here a week ago Saturday. And they were skiing on most of the runs up at Squaw. Not any more. Nasty early heat wave here that is melting a ton of snow. Born and raised here. I can't recall anything like the weather we've had this year.
