Thunderbird Club

bassslinger jio,

I got this bass from 'we buy guitars' in new york city (remember the fortyeighth street music store scene? this store's second life is now 'well strung guitars') in 1992 and it's gone through all kinds - actually the first gig I did w/it, I pulled the headstock totally of cuz it had a terrible graft job cuz of break that was mostly "bondo" - you know that stuff? plastic body filler for cars! this photo here is from 2007 (the fly guitars people wanted it for a five page interview w/me - there's photos of basses I no longer have there... what I do have now is here at my hoot page) when it had a bartolini three band eq preamp aboard. these days it's 100% passive... I used this bass for the first stooges reunion gig at coachella in 2003 and never played it again 'til rochester bassbrother scott helped me get it back in the ring, again I give much respect to him!

on bass, watt

(had to edit cuz I forgot to put my name, crimony!)
Thanks Watt - I met you years ago at a Steve Mackay tribute at Winters' Tavern in Pacifica where Steve lived. I made a 'tribute' to your (stollen) "Baby Bass" to hang in the Tavern that you signed. (it was a long night!) Iggy called you mid-set and you held your phone up to your mic so it was broadcasted over the PA - long live Steve Mackay.

48th Street was where all the action was.
Too bad it’s all long since gone.
I remember about lot of shops down in the east and west village in the 1980s. There was a big shop in midtown, but I don't remember its name. I had the freebass and then my EB-2 and not enough money to entertain much in the way of anything else at the time.

I sold the freebass in the east village on St. Marks, then bought the EB-2 the same day after realizing that I suddenly had no bass for the first time in a number of years.

Good deal!

Your thoughts..l
As some here know, my nephew is a guitar player and is branching out into the bass world. He plays in a worship band in Seattle and has asked what combo amp would be good for the bass I just made for him. He’s currently looking at the Orange Crush 100watt 115 combo. Is there another combo out there he should consider that pairs well with the Thunderbird?

Seems to be a lot of love around here for Ashdown and Fender combos but not much talk about the Orange combos. Any suggestions or leads on good deals is appreciated.

If combo and staying away from Rumbles, is a requirement I would start with solid state Ampegs....can he leave it at the venue?
