Thunderbird Club

Jk, as much as I would like to gig that bass I meant the Melody Maker body with a std scale even if it meant enlarging the body accordingly as in your LP......btw, how do those sound? anything like the one you tried at the store through that Deluxe?...

It sounds pretty good, I would say "modern" if that makes sense but nothing like that one I played at Emerald City Guitars....

FWIW I saw a post by Rob @Basvarken regarding a new pickup that is faithful replica of the ones used in the late '60 Les Paul basses, hopefully he'll chime in.
I guess it's a low impedance stacked humbucker made in conjunction with Gemini

Who is this wanker?

Where is George Takei when you need him?

I didn't realize the bridge route was that deep on a Warwick.
That’s actually very close to a standard route depth, but I did have it routed 1/8” deeper just in case I needed a string drop from the neck geometry. Figured I could always add a shim if needed vs having to reroute the bridge seat.

Kind of reminds me of Ronnie Van Zant and Al Kooper (producer). They were playing Simple Man and Al said to not bother recording it. R said: "Al, you have nice Rolls Royce in the parking lot, why don't you go sit in it and we'll do this song." Al said he didn't think it was that good of a song and they should work on something else. Ronnie put his arm around Al and started walking toward the door and said, "You just go sit in your car, we'll let you know when we're finished." Which Al did--and Simple Man is more popular today than ever.
A fave since the first hearing.

Yes! I'm super excited about this.
Thank you for asking Mark.

Last weekend I installed the prototype of the Brooks Gemini pickup into my modified golden oldie Epiphone JCS.

The pickup is a dead-on replica the best sounding bass pickup of all time: the Gibson low impedance stacked humbucker that was used in the Les Paul Bass between 1968 and 1979.

At least in my opinion. 😉
I really think they're amazing.

Extremely silent. Magnificent dynamic response. Tight low end. Chrystal clear top end. And very versatile.
For years I roamed Ebay and Reverb to score them to put in various bass guitars. But last few years they've become as rare as hen's teeth. And when you finally do find one the prices are astronomically high.
Many times I tried to find a pickup maker who can replicate it. And many of them said they could. But in the end they all had to admit they couldn't.

Until now!
Gemini Pickups from the UK joined forces with Brooks.
I sacrificed an original and carefully dissected it. Which was not a sinecure by the way.
The pickup revealed its very unusual architecture. And step by step we reverse engineered it.

And now the first prototype is alive!

If you have any further questions I'll be happy to answer them.

Beautiful Thunderbird II! Yes the Badbird Bridge will solve those problems. Used by Tom Petersson, Mike Watt, Geddy Lee and many others. Intonation without modification for 63-69 Thunderbirds. Send me a dm. View attachment 7338855

More FedMess laziness.... FYI this isn't the front porch, and it is light rain....

I’ve personally not had many issues with FedEx, other than a few crazy routes that delayed deliveries. I’ve had more issues with UPS, including lost packages and one that got “emptied” along the way. But the thing with both is that the people who deliver to our house are always nice and know to place packages behind the pillars on the porch.

People who are experts and educated in the finest of schools can make as many stupid decisions as the dude on the corner. Cracker Barrel.... Large companies can better absorb dumb decisions whereas smaller or family businesses can't, thus often they are run more efficiently and wisely.
The 1908 quake wiped out more than 30 thousand folks....yikes....
