Thunderbird Club

Not my thing.

Back in the eighties, early nineties, there was a Kern County judge who made fun of L.A. lawyers who would appear in his courtroom wearing cowboy boots. For some reason, some L.A. types thought it was clever to wear them when they came to the ā€œcountry.ā€ It would get pretty hilarious at times when they realized how much it annoyed that judge.
Likely getting in on the whole "Urban Cowboy" thing that was the rage. Likely started drinking Mickey's beer as well.
That was a time I kind of eased up on boots a little once it became a fad.

Being "blessed" with shortish, sorta wide feets, I wore side zip "Beatle Boots" while gigging from ~69-83; Wellingtons with non-slip soles during my truck driving days from 83-'05; mostly sneakers with Velcro(TM) straps these days.

Clark Gayton.
Yah, Howard Johnson passed away in '21 at 79. Had to look him up. I got it totally wrong as he was know as a tuba & Bari-sax player. I'll show myself out now...

Yes, really comfy. I used to wear them to work. They look good with jeans or a suit both.

When I win Lotto I’ll go down to RMW head office and get measured up for a custom pair in kangaroo leather.
Are they referred to as roo-boots? :)🄾

Always wanted Beatle-boots and high fringed moccasins (like Neil) but settled for low fringed moccasins and later black crepe-soled blue-suede platforms! Stain Alive! Stain Alive!

The boss uses an an amazing cadre of players. When we saw the High Hopes and Wrecking Ball tours, there were at least a dozen musicians on stage for some songs. Sadly, we won’t be seeing him on his recently announced tour. Just too expensive with the unregulated scalping in the US. He and others have tried to rein it in, but it’s almost impossible in L.A. That’s ok, we’ve seen him plenty over the years.

We’re getting to see SSPUs in a couple weeks and hopefully Jim Messina in May. My wife wants to see Christopher Cross at our Fox in June (Ugh). At least I know what to get her for her birthday….

I had a pair of Tony Llama bullhides - a long time ago when they had the four holes at the top to pull them on with your fingers-
Never had the holy boots, but absolutely love my black bull hides. I bought mine in Gatlinburg TN back in 1984, I wear them several times a week and they are still going strong! Elephant is about the only thing I’ve found that might outlast bull hide, I bought a pair back in 1990 and they still look brand new. I’ve had my mountain goats for a few years now but I don’t think they’re nearly as durable and the others, super comfy though.

I have a high arch and most boots (even some nice ones) don't have much and they are in the wrong spot. Old Nocona and Dan Post Tx made pre 90s do have it just perfect for me. I have some nice Chisos that feel fantastic, but low arch and your can want to slide. They got everything right about those but that.

I’ll have to check out eBay to see in I can find some pre 1990’s Nocs, none of their new stuff fits me. Never been a Dan Post fan, they always came across to me as more of a utility boot than a western boot. My utility boots are Ariat’s, great work boots.

Same here. Had boots as a kid, later teen and young adult and got a way when mine were ruined in a flooded basement. But began getting a few in recent years--14 pair I think now.... I have enough. Maybe. But I wear them more days than not.
I have wanted a pair of boots for a long time. I also don't know when I would ever wear them. So, no boots unless they are Red Wing work boots. Those, I have and wear a lot. And motorcycle boots. Those are part of my commuting attire most days. If cowboy boots would go through TSA without having to take them off, I might consider a pair. They typically have a steel shank, so nope.
