ok... I remember this pic now! I can't find even ONE of them out on the web! I'm startin' to wonder if you have something in common with @godofthunder59. He owns all the Hiwatts & you own all the Hamers!

What are the pups?

The black has proprietary Hamer pickups made by Dimarzio. They were called Slammer pickups I believe. (I have an 86 Hamer Cruise Bass that came with the same pickups) The burst came to me with newer issue EMG's with the solderless connectors so I have no clue what were in it originally. At the moment it has EMG Geezer P-J pickups in it.

When the black Hamer was up for sale at Kebo's bass shop, it was listed as sounding like "the voice of God" (I understand exactly what they meant!). I love the sound of this bass!!!! When I was alerted to it being listed for sale I immediately reached out to the shop and never received a response. A few days later Baz Cooper was posting pics of it on another bass forum. Soon after that he posted it for sale on eBay and I sent a message thru eBay that somehow let my phone number go thru (which eBay will not normally do). Next thing I know Baz is calling me and we worked out a deal. I had to sell my first Gibson BlackBird to cover it but I was willing to do that as those turn up on a regular basis. (My friend Joe bought the BB so I could make this deal happen. Bought it back from him later so he could buy another rare Hamer bass. Circle of life.)

Long story not so short, I have had the black Hamer for 3 years now and do not plan on letting it go. It has lots of player wear and tons of character that make it beautiful to me. I have only seen 2 or 3 for sale since I bought the black one (and one was an 8 string). When they show up they sell pretty quick. Only around 200 of the bass or guitars ever made so they are rare.

Sorry for writing a novel. Haha

I personally like the "novels". It's how I get the best information!

When you said "rare"... it didn't occur to me that they could be that rare! I guess I'll quit wasting my time searching for them daily! You're incredibly fortunate to have 2 of 'em!

Hamer's in general are rare, hard pressed to find them these days.

I consider myself beyond lucky to have landed either of them. If and when one goes it will be the burst. That one is super rare! It was made for a friend of the owners of Hamer and is supposedly one of only 2 made with a transparent finish. Most were black, red, or black and white striped (my white whale so to speak). The pickup and control layout is different than the typical FBIV as well.

There's no way that one of the much anticipated Vintage Pros will be coming home with me until:

1. the Maranello Z is sold ... and there's zero interest here for a non-FSO, to the point I'm tempted to try my luck in the TB classifieds ... but it has a rosewood fretboard.

2. I sell the ChinaBird ... which would be painful, has no real resale value and is my first Bird.
So @kat888, speaking of basses old and new, will you be replacing the image of your Epi avatar to feature your new red Kat-aldo signature bird?

Regards,
Captain Obvious

Voiced to low @ 250, my only gripe.
But, i run my bass into the Ampeg SVP-CL first, then into the front of the GK.
Those tubes in the Ampeg do a magical thing.
I see. Yeah... tubes never hurt!

Every bass I've plugged into this amp, have all sounded great... and the key ingredient seemed to be that low-mid EQ knob. This 'bird is such a different beast. I spent a good chunk of time playing' around with EQ today. I'll say it again... this bird is just such a different beast... in look, feel, size, & sound! It's changed the entire way I approach the instrument, and what I try to get out of it! (Bass is so much cooler than guitar)

What's the control layout?

I'm sure it will be beyond my means, but keep my in mind if/when you decide to part with that burst:thumbsup:
