Thunderbird Club

As a pre-teen in the mid-'60s, we had a local slot-car track in South Omaha. I was there every Saturday for a while. I had no money so my little red hard plastic Ferrari GT (probably Aurora) was the cheapest slot-car I could afford. My black COX controller was bought second hand from a guy there. I saw what the elite guys were using - hand welded tubular frame low and wide vacuum-formed bodied cars with wide sticky tyres...

So I started buying and painting the clear vacuum-form bodies (on the inside) and selling them to the older (by a few years) elite guys for a slight profit to afford participating. I never became 'one of them' but they tolerated my novice inclusion. Fun times.

We have a big set of this stuff, lots of extra track and cars, the electrical tech is better now too, I do not intend to grow up!

Absolutely.

Watching that vid makes me very nostalgic - something I generally try to avoid...

Someday I'll visit Seattle and when I do I want to race you and Frank on your track. I will accept small doses of nostalgia considering the advanced development of slot-car racing. :) Is there a copy of the late '60s winged (air-foil) Chaparral's?

I got an Aurora HO scale race car set for Christmas when I was in the 4th grade. It had a Lola GT and a Ford GT and a pretty cool track layout (lane changing, three level spiral, overpass and a hump jump). I sat cross legged on the floor for many an hour running those cars around the track with my friends. Great memories. Later on I got a Tyco set (not built as sturdy but the cars were a lot faster). I still have a lot of it in boxes that I haven’t opened in 50 years. Fun times.

remember the time when it was just Bud and Michelob?....Heineken was a treat....
Heineken was my special occasion beer. Come to think of it I had a good number of special occasions for some reason.
Michelob was a lesser treat. That was before there were 674 designer brands. I quit drinking too soon!

This is interesting:
I keep going back to that......

We have a bunch of HO stuff put away. I don’t recall details.
