Yeah, but those pups had exposed pole pieces, if they had metal covers it would have sounded more like Metalica.
The exposed pole thread is good, but it will never be as good as the pedal without a box thread.
Is it wrong to expect a box with purchase of a new pedal

There is a difference to my ear, but is it worth the difference in cost to me? Nope.
I used my Chinabuckered Gibson for a couple of sets last Saturday night and thought it sounded great.
I will be more than happy if these are the pickups that go into the Epi Vintage Pros.
Page #1984. I've been waiting for this one! This was the album that made nearly every priority in my life, just disappear! Alex Van Halen turned my world upside down. Nothing else mattered but playing music by my second time through this album. I love everything on it, but the drumming, and the production of the drums on this album, just yanked me in & has never let me go.
Kat - looking forward to trying this one directly into my bass cab. Won't get a chance for a few more hours since the rest of the house is still in bed. Thanks for going to the trouble of a second take and post, I really find these types of comparisons helpful in making gear and component choices.

That was a great suggestion (listening through the bass amp). I had not thought about that. But, in so doing, the differences between the two become quite apparent.
It is a big difference in price for an incremental improvement. However, that is the nature of cost/improvement relationship. The first 85% is only 15% of the cost. It is the last 15% that is 85% of the cost. Then the only calculus is your own cash available and the value placed on that final 15%.
Yeah, I foolishly threw out the box for my TCE Polytune. The Diamond BCP1 came with its own (+18V) wallwart and the box is a good place to keep it. Once you have one box, they start to accumulate.

Totally agree. When my sons look for new songs to learn, I often make suggestions that dig into the 80's hard and/or heavy rock scene.
I challenged them to learn, "Hot for Teacher" and they did alright on it. Their teacher is singing on it though he'll be the first to tell you he's no singer. Great guy and great musician though!
They're better now which is to be expected since this was over a year ago.

Some people collect large numbers of things, I like to have a few, but need to have them just so, and quite obsessively... That means not cutting corners on some things and not chasing phantoms on others. Some ideas are pointless or just needless complications and need to go in the bin. There's nothing wrong with thinking about something, but better the idea is discarded before you spend time and money on it and end up regretting it. And yes, my brand new Thunderbucker 66S pickup should arrive today or tomorrow. I offset this against the undertaking there will 0 -- yes zero -- hardware/electronics swaps to the future Vintage Pro ... unless the pickups really suck.
