Thunderbird Club

Band got first gig. It's a dump, but getting paid and owner is cool. Trying to promote the hell out of it on Facebook and went to hang flyers up yesterday. We only have two weeks to get a crowd, just do what we can and start building a resume. Manager said he can get us in other places and appreciated us acting like responsible adults. Wish I acted like that when I was 21 and thinking I was a rock star.

Excellent - you have to start somewhere. Sounds like you covered rule #1 - first step to future success

Black Beauties are on the T Bird:
  • I like the sound,
  • The feel is different from NYXLs (sticky, grippy?),
  • Don't feel as stiff as NYXLs (BB 50-110 vs. NYXL 50-105),
  • A bit of an odour, like fresh plastic.
So a couple of questions to those using black beauties - does that 'sticky' feeling wear off? Does the sound change much from fresh?

That being said, if I get to liking these, the JC may get Red Devils.

Bagged tea is the equivalent of instant coffee, a poor alternative to the real thing. I drink mine the way the way it's done where it's grown, full leaf, full strength, and properly steeped at 208F. It doesn't include milk, sugar, lemon, or cookies. $65 a pound and worth it.

Brits know as much about proper tea drinking as they do dental hygiene.:D
According to Science Magazine, on average, American are missing more teeth than us brits, now who doesn't brush.

Interesting explanation as to the possible reason for that. I have all of mine and have never had a cavity, same with my siblings and adult kids. But we don't eat the American (or Brit) diet.

I don't know what they're teaching you in your history books... but over here we're taught the TRUTH!!! Back in 1986, when our fore-fathers fought the revolutionary war... we won the right to choose first, and we chose obesity! That means you got stuck with bad teeth! We won fair & square, so buck up, quitcherbitchin', and enjoy eating your corn on the cob through a knothole in a fencepost, like any good Englishman should!

(I'm a little sketchy on a couple o' those details... but I'm mostly pretty sure about some of it, basically)

Based on yer geographical location... I'd guess yer diet consists of snakes, snails, & alligator tails. That's what little luthiers are made of;)

Fairly confident the Epi CV pickups will be acceptable to at least 99% of the purchasers. Steve at ThunderBucker Ranch has just stocked up on magnets for the other <1%. :)

I also told him there might be some interest in his pickup and bridge covers for those wanting to complete the vintage look...if they ever get here.

Good thinking- there will probably be some interest in the covers.

1986?! Looks like the guy who wrote the history book CHOSE to get it wrong... are you sure you're not thinking of the sequel to 1984.
Also, I only see people eating corn on the cob here at KENTUCKY Fried Chicken. I thought us brits were Limeys... so at least you can't say we all have a Vitamin C deficiency.

I don't have a clue as to who has better or worse dental hygiene (and I can't imagine why that comparison is even important) but I do know "junk science" when I see it, and that study is exactly that.

To get the result they wanted, the "scientists" in this study redefined good hygiene as "who is missing more teeth" knowing full well here in the States it's very very common to have your wisdom teeth removed so they don't crowd out other teeth and screw up your bite or cause other oral problems. They defined "removed wisdom teeth" as "missing teeth" and therefore the "singular indicator of bad oral hygiene". That's obviously bunk and a complete twisting of data to support a predetermined outcome. If that's the level of "scientific" discourse in Sciencemag.org then I'd put it at the same level of legitimacy as The National Enquirer. What next, Gibson shaped UFOs spotted over France?

BTW - I'm not ragging on Thunderfox, he may very well be correct, and quite frankly shouldn't even feel compelled to respond to silly stereotypes, but this particular study doesn't deliver the goods. It just highlights the continued downward spiral of legitimate science towards infotainment.

Now, let's focus on something more informative ...

. If they nailed down a way to give us a good vintage repro... they can build it in Timbuktu as far as I'm concerned. The question is... how good can a mass-produced, budget priced pickup sound? I guess we'll get to find out here in the next few months! I'm looking forward to everybody's reviews:thumbsup:

If they are using the EY "China Buckers", as we suspect may be the case, most people will probably be happy with them.

Friday night's gig was a reasonably big corporate function- 500 seated, big stage, big house sound with sound guy.
Four sets. First set- quieter rock music over dinner. The next three sets- get them up dancing and keep them that way.
First two sets I used the Gibson TBird with the Chinabuckers because of the versatility I get from it, last two used the LP Gold Top because it was it's first gig and I suspected it would be better used there.
Anyway, the Chinabuckers certainly rock but I also find them quite nice in the quieter stuff we sometimes do. I would never have used that bass in those songs when it had it's original TB+s installed.
Anyway the sound guy had no trouble getting a good front of house sound out of the Chinabucker TBird- no complaints from him at all.

We must have sounded good- the event organiser booked us for next year at the end of the night.

It's all just jokes, not taking it seriously, just a bit of a laugh. To be honest, I didn't take the article as fact, most of the time, they never are.
Don't want people to think I'm feeling victimised or anything. Everyone is friendly really, just a jokey debate is all, it's all in good fun.

I may be British, but I enjoy American Football a lot more (My favourite team is Kansas City Chiefs), so don't think I'm bias. But I agree with the British argument.

Football/Soccer players use their feet to kick the ball 95% of the time (unless they head it). In American Football, the ball is barely kicked, unless its special teams or trying for a field goal. They run most of the time. I don't know why it's called football.

That doesn't sound right. Are you sure it wasn't 1986 when John Delorean, drove the first gasoline powered horse around Fenway Park shouting "The British are coming! The British are coming!"? Yeah... like just after the French invaded Normandy, and just before Abraham Washington bought the Dodgers & moved 'em from Brooklyn to Arkansas...

I'm fairly serious about the powdered tea ...You haven't lived until you're sky high (7000 ft) on a plantation at 10 PM trying to match cup for cup with the guys who grow the stuff and have an insane tolerance for caffeine. No sleep that night!
