I emailed Gibson asking about how many left-handed Thunderbirds were made (question I'm always asking), and this was their response:

"Thanks for your email! Unfortunately we are unable to provide production numbers. I hope this helps!"

Thanks, but it doesn't help at all.

'58 Precision bass - back then they referred to any electric bass on an LP as "Fender bass". It's part of history.

John Deacon has a credit on a Queen album (forget which) that says "John Deacon- Fender Bass". It actually was a Fender though.

I wonder if they have the same attitude towards the people that shell out $4000 for a Sunburst Les Paul.
I'd bet that if the name of that company wasn't Gibson (or Fender), they would not have lasted this long the way they've been running it.

I just deleted that post but for future reference I did say that.

I would call his attitude less than good, for the simple reason that at the end, instead of saying "Sorry I couldn't help" or something a little more human like and less "generic letter response" (I believe that's how @theFixer put it), he responded with "I hope (my lack of information) helps!"
Maybe it's just me.

It isn't just you, that response made me think of someone at at call center on a script, always ending the call/email with the same ending. Not very human like, more like a drone or a robot, which many run of the mill CSR reps have to be, for company consistency. Can't be risking free thought and judgement when there is a generic company policy to uphold

I had someone in the 90s tell me "I used to play fender bass". Apparently in the region he was from, that term had stuck around. I'm sure it is alive and well in some areas.

I was a young adult pre internet (got that in 95) and it was the first time I heard the term. He explained it right away.

Back then I had more regard for what I considered to be more advanced modern basses, thompson, alembic, upper level ibanez soundgears, kubicki, zon and modulus, carvin, and pointy metal basses. I wasn't yet a bass player at the time. I originally wanted to play bass but was sidetracked by guitar and at the time I was a guitar player with a squier P bass.

What do you think of this trade? Value wise that is. Mid 70's Gibson Grabber 3 for a 2012 Gibson Explorer.

I remember being amused when looking at credits and seeing "Fender bass" credited and a picture of a guy holding something that was clearly not a Fender. I don't remember what that record was or what the actual bass was, but it sure wasn't a Fender. Probably an EB-0 or something, but it was a long time ago. The record was old at the time, too.

I stopped in at local GC over the weekend and saw/played a Musicman Cutlass. I was drawn to the funky pickups. It is a nice bass but really just a variation on a P-bass IMHO. So, I found a similar set of the funky looking pickups on sale and going to put them on one of my P-basses.

I had these exact pick ups in a custom shop precision, they are awesome.
