I raised my pickups the other night and is it possible that too high it can get a little boomy? I found it a little unpleasant.

Suppose it depends on your pickups. Mine don't sound 'boomy' but then I may have different standards for what constitutes boomy. I have found with both EYGP 'Chinabuckers' and Thunderbuckers that they sound nice and aggressive when they're raised.

Mike, this is (although you'd be forgiven for forgetting it) the Thunderbird Club, therefore when people recommend you crank your pickups up as close to the strings as you can get, they are likely talking about delicate and refined Bird humbuckers (Lollars, Lulls, Thunderbuckers etc etc) and not the BEAST Sidewinder or Mudbucker found in EB-3s. Those things will bend gravity.

You are right, I thought cranking the pickups to the strings were optimal settings for the bird and I just kind of lumped all bird pups together in my thought process. What an ugly sounding mistake that was.

It's all good Prog. Same on mine. backed off a bit. And just sounds killer.
