Most of my work is on upright. Yeah, it's a bear to get loud and still sound good. I use a Blast Cult upright. Slightly thicker and deader than a normal upright, so it amplifies easier.
Two soundposts kills the acoustic sound a bit because dampens the top from vibration. Lists of people do it and if you're playing loud, I think it's a great solution.

I use a Grace Designs Felix pre. Huge help and an amazing DI

I was having a whole lot of fun messing with the TH drive channel and the upright. The big knock on that box is the fact that you have to turn the gain down to keep the drive channel from being overwhelmingly louder than the clean channel. You don't just kick it in. It makes me wonder if there's a resistor somewhere that could have a higher or lower value in one of the circuits in order to even out the volume a bit. I probably won't ever get around to it, since I don't use drive hardly at all.

[edit] If the Darkglass wasn't so expensive, I would want to try one. But, I have a TH, so there you have it.

The guy who works on my stuff could probably do the mod you seek. I'm in Rhode Island, if you ever wanted to look into it I could ask him.

Yep! Fortunately, I'm a long time endorser of Blast Cult and got a signature model for free. Jason doesn't make a lot of basses these days, so I doubt I'll ever get another free one, but it was fun while it lasted

Great full range cabs help too. I make my own for this purpose. Note the foam in the f holes and behind the tailpiece

That's a really nice looking bass. I forgot the f-hole trick. That's another one. It looks like you have a wire up to the fingerboard for a clicky pickup. That's another way I want to spend money I don't have yet. Mine already has a Full Circle, but I would like to add a K&K clicky pickup and stereo/blend preamp.

I have been using a small Carvin MB12 combo and MB15 extension cabinet because they are about as full range as you can get for a low end combo. It means I have sprouted a whole pedal board to match the Full Circle to the impedance requirements of the little Carvin so it doesn't sound like a cardboard box full of corn flakes.

Grace Designs look like they make several preamps. All expensive as hell, but if they work, they would be perfect for upright. The pedal board would get a bit simpler, but not that much.

My bass is wired for a 'clickie' fingerboard pickup, but I don't use it. It's just a wire with nothing on it at the moment. To me, Blast Cult make my favorite pickups, especially for the slap upright thing. There's a cool dude named Zac Victor (sometimes goes by Vic Victor). He makes really nice pickups for stupid cheap. Based out of Detroit (plays and sings for a psychobilly band called Koffin Kats).

Search 'Zac Vic Victor' on Facebook. I have no business connection to him. He's just a pal who makes good pickups for the dough

They ain't cheap, for sure! I use the Felix on doubling gigs because it's two channel and I can switch super fast. It's really worth the dough, but it's a lot of dough! The Alix is a single channel version. Just as nice, but only one channel

I think that's him. Those look great. One of his fingerboard pickups would hasten things because they are so reasonably priced.

It would all apply, since I don't play through any bass amplifiers with valves. All solid state. It's the one way Kat isn't my long-lost twin. I'll be interested in learning what you find, since we can all learn something new. Or at least confirm or refute what we already thought we knew.

Sure, you all thought a kazoo was annoying? Now you can run it through your bass amp and annoy people in the next county.

These are actually pretty cool. You run it thru a distortion pedal, flanger, and wah; and you can sound JUST LIKE JIMI!!!

Why, oh why, oh why, couldn't they have used the "original" batwing headstock on the re-issue, rather than the 2+2? Don't mind that they have extended the top horn, but they should have kept the original headstock!

Update on my broken sounding cab. Since I lowered my pickups back down on my Bird I plugged in and cranked er up until stuff fell of the walls and other than the mess of objects laying on the floor Im pretty happy with how everything went. I plugged in my P (stands for Powerful) and was very happy with what I heard as well. Cab sounded great and the head sounded as it should so as of now I will except it as it were. On Friday our band practice gets loud enough for a 300 person venue so that will be the ultimate confirmation, as of now I dont see it being negative. Thanks for all of your suggestions
