Thunderbird Club

? Not sure I understand the question.

I did try a bunch of different wiring, cap, pot, switch and preamp options on the FrankenGoth before I settled on the vol, vol, bass, treb 9volt active layout with series Humbucker/single coil tap switching.

One of the passive options I tried set the tone pot up as full on bright from 0-9 and kill switch when turned to 10. In essence the functionality of the tone pot was removed from the circuit and the pot acted like an on off switch (although I suspect there was some loading from the pot vs totally removing the tone pot but probably not a huge difference). I didn't stay with that option because I do most of my sound shaping on the bass vs at the amp, so I needed a functional tone pot on board.

Yeah that was it. I ‘sorta’ remembered that you (I thought) cabled the pickup to a different tab on the pot with the effect that it worked as normal 0-9 and 10 took it out of the circuit altogether.
I got it wrong.

IIRC what I did was cut the cap off the tone pot. That's all it takes to make the pot in essence a switch.

Saw them a couple of times in the mid 80s in a club in Sydney. They were intense.

Just watched this old documentary, it's in three parts and only a little bit of Swedish.

I have such mixed emotions about that doc. The sentiment is fine. Hank Williams was rad, Toby Keith sucks. Fair enough and true enough, but the execution of that thing is pretty fake. Joe Buck was an early member of Legendary ShackShakers. He was insufferable, so we let him go. He’s a trust fund kid trying to tell us how to ‘keep it real.’ Give me a break! Same goes for Hank3 unfortunately. Nice guy, but...

In any city at any time in history, there’s been great music and (mostly) crappy music. Country music’s demise started way back with folks like Chet Atkins and Fred Rose. They’ve been trying to make it glossy since the 50’s and they finally pulled it off.

I’ve lived in Nashville for 20 years. There’s great stuff and terrible stuff and no one is forcing you into any camp. Still some amazing music and artists here. We have great punk rock bands, doom bands...everything.

I dunno, Joe Bucks entire ‘performance’ in that was such a put on if you know the dude. Hank3 has made a career about how Nashville sucks and he’s gettin’ out of here. Yet he’s still here making great money singing about how it sucks to be here.

I’ll shut up now :)

I found it looking for Jason and the Scorchers vids. I know exactly what you mean, but thought what the hell, post it.

Tell me more about the tone mod? What does it do?

I do like the tone rolled off sound as well as the piano of doom sound wide open. Hey there’s a good username.

Two ways to do it. If you take it out completely, Your tone is running wide open, having it in the circuit cuts back some of the top end, even when the tone control is run wide open. The other mod is a potentiometer, that when is full on, it's out of the circuit, but when dialed in, you have a tone control. Not the best explanation, and @Dadagoboi can explain it better.

My package has departed LAX. Wouldn't be surprised if it's going via Tokyo and Bangkok.

Packet steamer would be more romantic -- hopping from port to port across the Pacific, drinking cheap whisky in sailor bars, getting into brawls, outrunning pirates. Probably faster too.

Sounds like a good weekend pass for this Queen

Would be funny if the bass showed up at your door with a steamer trunk tourist sticker on the case for every city it passed through!:roflmao:

If you do, guaranteed to get at least 5 pages worth from everyone. Probably more.
Be careful what you ask for, I'm leaving for a Porsche event in about an hour. A fast paced canyon drive through the hills with about 30 other Porsches to the Nethercutt Collection to see their car museum and the musical instrument collection, then off to lunch at a local pub and a leisure drive home with the top down. If I see anything interesting I'll post a pic.:thumbsup:

It probably wouldn't bother to outrun the pirates. Just smack 'em around a little so it's good and salty when it gets to you. Attitude, y'know. Only way to keep up with much younger twin sisters is to have attitude, so it's working on its attitude before it gets there.

Photo please.

With two pickups, try backing off the volume on the bridge pickup a notch -- you'll hear an increase in level and a thickening in tone. The neck pickup is throatier sounding. Turn the bridge all the way down and see how you like it.

I did that a bit, but preferred it all the way up. Gave it that clanky metal cable sound that I like. I like the neck pickup alone when the tone is rolled off, so I guess I favor the extremes.

I left it at my studio space and won't be back for a few days, so here's the reverb sale picture :)
