Thunderbird Club

I don't know if yer already familiar... but these guys might appeal to you & @Dr_Feelgoood212 . Fu Manchu are commonly lumped in with "Stoner Rock"... but your doomy Canadian asses might find some fun in here. They're a bunch of detuned California dooooooooods who like going fast. Most of their songs are about hopped up muscle cars, pimped out vans, & airborne dune buggies!

Oh yeah Dude, my bandmates turned me on to them. Great stuff!.

My favourite guitarplayer of all time - Not only for his sound, but also for his flambouyant looks and antics!

Just a shame he washed his talent down the drain, and totally messed up his life with drugs... :(

Thunders and his partner-in-crime Jerry Nolan, were such an inspiration (musically) in my young punk days. :)

Such a unique character. Too bad the Heroin got a hold of him.

Mark our Queen is one. We "meet " at The Dude Pit, it was a bass forum..........honest. When that imploded members from the pit set up The Last Bass Outpost a good place to hang very small group, check it out if interested. In 2005 or so there was this guy in the next town over selling all this crazy Gibson bass stuff I thought only I liked. We connected and became fast friends. Later in life you don't make many fast friends. Bill Wallence "drbassman" was one of them.

The Dude Pit was a fun place. I met my best friend there (Chromium, or Joe as I call him.) My wife likes to tell people that Joe is my "internet boyfriend I met on the Dudepit".

I have met Mark/Veronica/Our Queen in person. We had dinner, beers and then played his Thunderbirds.

Bill "Dr. Bassman" seemed like such a great guy and I really miss his postings at The Outpost.

I’m always checking stuff out. The Luthiers Corner section is amazing. Some seriously talented folks there.

I was going to mention Luthiers Corner. I enjoy and am amazed by the art and science of it, (and jealous, cuz I ain’t got no skills) and those folks are so helpful and encouraging to others there. As friendly as this place.

@theFixer, so I looked up Loaded Dice and see that they’ve been inducted into the Michigan Blues Hall of Fame and played with some of the biggest names of our local blues scene. Were you part of that and did you get inducted as well? I couldn’t find any recordings online though...
"Loaded Dice" had Mark Schwerin (guitar/voc) & Bill Wilson (bass)... everyone else was in a revolving door it seemed. I didn't know about any induction, but I'm happy for Mark! He's the real deal, and Loaded Dice was his baby! One of my favorite gigs I ever played, was at the State Theater in Kalamazoo, MI. Loaded Dice opened for Smokey Wilson!

My time onstage is pretty much a blur... but I'll never forget hanging around downstairs (like a green room area) before the show, and watching these cool seasoned ol' pros from backstage! The crowd was really "in" to us, we had a great night, and (if ya wanna believe a newspaper review) we outperformed the headliner (I've always felt that was B.S., but it was nice to read):)

That was one of the coolest nights of my life!

I can definitely get into this!

So ... which replacement nickel/chrome tuners would you put in a Tbird without having to redrill?
Gotoh Resolite GB 528? Hipshots? They come with black Grovers, would Grover Titan 145C4 fit or does it have to be the mini 144C4?
Gonna bump this along because I don't think anyone answered it yet. I personally don't have much experience changing tuners, but I do know that the Hipshot GB7 'Xtenders' (D-tuners) fit on post-90's Gibson Thunderbirds without modification.

I was all over them when Much Music (welfare Canadian version of MTV) played their debut single back in 88 I think it was. Great band.
I don't know what made me think of this, but I'm glad I did!

@kat888 This one's for YOU!!!

I thought you might enjoy the opportunity to compare notes regarding the brewing of a good cup of tea, with Ginger Baker;)

Almost to St. Louis. Searched CL along our route to see if anything cool would turn up. Not much. One ACC 370 for $450, but daddy wants tubes!

May just hit up my Mesa rep for a Strategy and be done with it. I mostly want enough grunt and some top end crunch without the lows turning to mush. Really, I just want a Marshall Major, but that ain’t gonna happen any time soon :)

$450 is a bit much for a 370 as well. Seen a few mint ones for $350. But thing with ACC stuff is you have to jump on it, because, if they are in good condition, they will go fast.

But your strategy for getting a Strategy is a smart one.
(I was reaching a bit for that one, but it had to be said)

Ha! We’ll see what happens. Agreed the asking price for the 370 was too high to make me jump. I’d also rather get a Sunn Colosseum 300 for that price

... you could own both....

Couple months ago there was a 370 on Reverb for $750 or something. It looked brand new, zero marks on it, even the pen ink on the back was still there. The guy also had it recapped and everything a few months prior. Don't think it sold.

What year of Thunderbird? My 1991 had set screws in a different place from the 2001 or 2015. Hipshot Ultralights are an exact fit for more recent ones. You have to drill a little for the older ones. I did that on the 1991. They don't cover the original hole, but it's the size of a pickguard screw. I haven't used the others, but to my eye, Gottohs look great. They would require additional holes for mounting screws. GB350s might work without another hole. The Grovers need a second hole. Actually the Gotoh and Grovers you suggested might work with the original hole on an earlier headstock. You would have to drill the second hole, but at least the original hole might be covered if not used.

This is all Gibson information. I'll have to defer to people who actually know what they are talking about for Epiphone information.

JEEEEEEEEZ... yeah... one might say they'd have a whole new reason to question your sanity, if you have an "in" to a brand new Strategy, and don't take advantage of it! You can leave the 5 thousand dollar amps & 6 hunnerd dollar shipping, to our friends down under;)

I would hold out for an ACC 320 instead of a 370. Or, just go in with both feet and hunt down a 360/361 power plus stack. A 320 with a 408 cabinet is physically bigger, but quite a bit lighter. It can sound very much like a 360 stack. I had one and let it go. I kept the 360. Can't use both, so one really had to go, but I have thought about looking for another 320 and 408. In typical ACC fashion, it was absurd. Four 15s. Two front firing, two firing at each other in a slot in the middle of the cabinet. It was seismic even at low volumes, and it got that big, round, ACC sound. I never thought the 370 had that. Maybe the 370 I had just needed attention. Who knows. It had too much dull orange in its sound and not enough dark blue-green.
