Now that I think about it, the '91 has Schaller strap locks, not Dunlop. They are a royal pain on a 'Bird, because that little knob that you pull out to release the lock sticks out in an unfortunate way. Dunlops would be better. Maybe this is the incentive I needed to make the swap. I find that Schallers bind up a bit at times, too. Dunlops are a bit more reliable, in my experience.

LOXX better than Dunlops. The LOXX sit closer to the bass. I have Dunlops on my Carvin. I find them much less confidence-inspiring than the LOXX.

I suppose it’s really just social media in general. On a typical social media outlet, I avoid politics or faith. Those are conversations best had in person with folks.

There’s a bunch of threads I avoid on TB. Say there’s a thread about wiring onboard preamps or multiscale basses. I can’t offer anything there as I tend to love four string, passive basses. I’d just be a drag to those folks by saying I don’t like what they like, so I move on to what I do like. Or maybe I can offer positive advice on something elsewhere.

Maybe they would welcome your wading in to tell them that they are doing it wrong if they need more than four strings and a bunch of extra wires and silicone chips and stuff. Then they would have a reason to be outraged, tell you to mind your own business, and refrain from telling them what they have been telling themselves for the last 37 pages. Or something like that.

One of these years, I would like to try an active bass with a good preamp. I would like to try a bass with an extra string or two someday, too. Unfortunately, life is too short to get everything done, so it probably won't happen. In this universe, I'm finally getting the finish done on the P-Bird and Tele-Bird. I put too much pigment in the poly, which means it's an opaque finish now. Oh, well. At least it's finally coming out OK. I have sanded off about a zillion coats because it looked crummy or had a run somewhere. There are a few thin spots, and I'm having a tough time with the edges. It's all brush work, since I'm not planning to do this again, and there's no point in spending money on a spray rig that will only get used once. Time is free when it's free time. At any rate, I put a few drops of green in the red to tone it down just a hair, but it's coming out pretty close to KatBird red. I think it looks pretty good, even though it wasn't what I had in mind at first. Proof of something or another.

Those look great. The '91 may have a set in its future. If that works, the rest of 'em might get those. Actually, the P-Bird might start out with those. No reason not to. They come with a nickel finish, so that will fit right in with red and shiny.

In the Dunlop vs. Schaller, I look at the mechanism being the first thing to fail.

On the Dunlop's, there is nothing holding the instrument. So the pin can slide out and the instrument will fall.

On the Schaller's, the strap button sits in a cup, making it (for lack of a better term) a static point where there is no moving parts that can fail. So if the mechanism does fail, the cups are still there holding the instrument.

So I'm on team Schaller.
But for most of my instruments I use Fender Strap Blocks, if all my instruments were the same strap orientation it might be a different story, but they're not. If my black TBird didn't come with Schaller's, I'd use the Blocks exclusively... the blocks don't work very well with Schaller strap buttons, and I figured why not give the Schaller's a shot too.

That’s the thing, though. Why does the medium bring out the worst in some folks? I’d wager a lot of ‘trolls’ are possibly decent folks in ‘real life.’

I knew a guy like that. He was great in person, but had minimal social skills. He was a computer guy, so talking to machines was his thing. Put him online where there's no nuance and you don't really know him, and he came across like the biggest jerk on the planet. He had the whole "I'm right, I'm an engineer" thing going on. It was really amusing in person. Online? He got banned from everywhere all the time.

Because they can hide who they are, and be ignorant without getting in any real trouble.
What you're possibly seeing is those people being who they really are, and in 'real life' they act like a decent person

I put them on the RNR before I even brought it to the luthier. I plan to use the same strap for both.

Morning all - quick question regarding the Gator ProGo case. Does anyone have any experience of using the double version with two birds? I’m thinking that this would be a winner for gig transport rather than two separate hard cases.
