Thanks for posting this Ken! I went & checked out their website. I'm replacing all my Schaller locks with their product ASAP. I fully support what they're doing, and would encourage everyone to look into it. It ain't about the product. This company should be supported!

I know that we didn't. We were a bit more than 20 employees when we sold out. Amazing lack of politics and other turf related nonsense. Great if you are motivated and want to be involved in everything. Terrible if you need someone to do printing for you.

Kat responded with a Ken Smith option that meets the 49" minimum requirement but I'd like some other options as well. So if anyone else out there knows of a G string that's at least 49" in length I'm all ears.

There are many reasons that a company would object to their brand being put into a movie/tv show. Could be as simple as the situation not being consistent with brand image.

But, discussing with the company is actually pretty easy. On a corporate to corporate level, you are not going through the customer service channels.

I wouldn't doubt that there's nearly infinite number of reasons. I just think that for a lot of situations, a piece of tape is the fastest, easiest, and cheapest solution.

Good luck! Out of curiosity, I looked at the Rotosound site for their lengths. Interestingly they list "Ballend to Silk", with the extra long scale being 39.25". So that's no help for you.

@PillO, i used to be a film dieheard, but i like the Fuji gear, it's an X-T1.
Would love a Hassie, but so far out of my realm dollar wise.

I am semi-digital, in that I use film then scan. I have both a Nikon CS5000 and CS9000. What irks me is that in the Kodak bankruptcy, the E6 5L processing kit was discontinued. E6 was developed with the intention that it was simple enough that an amateur could do it at home. And after processing, if all the chemistry is mixed together it is more or less dilute fertilizer. The only home processing still available to hobbyists is B&W.

The guitar player might be endorsed by a different company, could be an anti corporate statement...

It's called "Product Displacement" which usually has to do with licensing fees and stuff, sometimes they just doesn't want to go through the hassle of asking the brand if they object to it, so they just blank it out from the start. Also sometimes the 'tv show' doesn't want to advertise a brand for free if they could get paid for it.
You see it a lot on laptops and vehicles on tv.

The last bit could be true. Some countries don’t allow American brands to be televised too.

I suppose going through the hassle of contacting the company would be a key factor, very time consuming and frustrating. Just from my experience as a customer going through customer service is enough to make me freak out.

Normally, you don’t need any sort of permission to play your own gear. I’ve been ‘the bass player’ on some tv shows and videos. My instruments were never brought into question

I really wanted to put Roto 77 Jazz flats on the VP bird. Had a brand new set of them on a FSO, so I took them off that bass and installed the E, A and D strings on the VP with no problem. But when I got to the G string I couldn't get more than three quarters of the way around the post, so it wouldn't hold tune and kept popping off (hate it when my G string pops off). Unfortunately, I can't remember for sure if I trimmed that string before installing it on the FSO. Anyway, 49" at minimum is a long reach for a G string. I'm hoping I can find something I really like. I'll be sure to update the club here with my findings.

From my understanding, it's not that you need permission, it's that the company can object to the use of the brand logo being used.
But like I said, I'm no expert in the subject, just stuff that I read when I get bored.

Yup. Same deal on Saturday Night Live. I quit watching it a couple years ago... but watched it faithfully for years before that. I challenge you to count how many "Marshall" logos you actually get to see over the years, on the SNL stage. They're almost always taped over.

You could try emailing Rotosound. I've found them very responsive with product questions.
